    Default Two questions

1st - how the HELL do I force units to do what I want? I just lost a battle (after which I hit the PC so hard it reset so i gotta refight) because my velites instead of targeting the elephants as I said, started to pump their javelins into some militia guys? I mean WTF?! Cavalry sometimes does the same thing like instead of circle charge directly into the spear line? Any ideas or solutions? Happens with archers too that they target what they wish..

2nd - how how the many hells, can I force Gaul somehow to stop sending 5 stacks at me every turn. Its depressively boring stuff, to fight again and again and again like idiot. I have played three turns with 8 battles in total, with Gaul only. Its annoying, not challenging or anything anymore...

    1. Hmm, I've never had that problem with my Velites. Archers, I don't care about, I let them fire at will at whatever they want. Pretty obvious, but if your Velites are on guard mode on and fire at will off, then they should attack the target you tell them to.
About cavalry, if they ride into any enemies they will automatically attack, so when you tell them to go somewhere (like a flanking action) make sure they never accidently run at enemies (even 1 horse touching can make this happen), otherwise you will have to doubleclick again to make them break combat again.
    2. Rumour has it that if you take land adjacent to Gaul territory in Iberia, their attacks will be less intense. Haven't tried this myself yet, but I'm about to within a few years.
Also, in my previous campaign (this was 6.4 though) I took Patavium, Mediolanium, Nicaea and Darantasia (writing from memory, hoping the names are correct). By this time, the boarder to the Gauls are so large that I didn't suffer very large attacks on one spot. Also, taking Darantasia refuses the Gauls alot of cash (while giving you more). One sideeffect though is that you will be in war with the Germanians.
    It's all up to you!

Well, I did my part of digging, and got the Force Diplomacy Script to work. Three cheers for peace with Gauls.

question one : Did you turn of skirmish mode and fire at will mode? Becous this will be your problem for velites and fire at will for archers. Do you group cav units or not? And cav units attack the nearest units as well.

Weird. I always have my velites on guard mode and fire at will, BUT, when I am facing elephants, I have then on guard only, and I focus fire. And yes, I do group cavalry in some armies

Well grouping them and moving them to a location will make them take the same distance from each other as in the starting formation. But thats not the question to them chargin in to the spear unit ahum... Thy charge the spear unit becous thy are to close, thy allways attack enemie units that are close.

disable fire at will mode and they will obey you my lord... Whenever I fight armies with ellies I micro-manage my velites and normally 2 units will handle 3/4 elephant units

Its a matter of patience fighting gaul off from northen italy. I fought more battles against gaul (as my screens shows) then i can count and im somewhere at 204 B.C and i have only gained mediolanum just recently. And i wage no other war or battles then against the forces from gaul.

But meanwhile italy gets stronger economy and most towns can build full pre marian legions which is needed when invading carthage. No offense to anyone but i dont belive in any forced diplomacy or giving land away to senate or any other workaround. Me myself think that you should face the enemy, win or die but thats just me.

Well, I can tell you Samariten, by 186 BC, I have 95 battles against the Gauls, and I havent got a single city of them. all I want from the force diplomacy is a turn or two of a peace...I bet they will bring like 2 times more stacks then but hey,who cares

Maybe it is because I group them. The battle after which I reset my computer with a single hit, I fought again, and again, when I grouped all 4 velite units together, they did not fire as I wish. So I ungrouped the band, and brought elephants down rather easily, save for one running through approx thousand men on close spot

I normally only group if i need to make formationes before battle... During battle I don't use groups at all, since I think units behave odd while grouped...

Well, sometimes...but generally yeah, when ungrouped, they tend to behave less suicidal

Talking of which, there is a button to give command of units to the AI in battle. I haven't played around with this anything, and never felt the need for it either. However, does anyone use it, and whats your opinion?

AI is stupid beyond words. I hate when I have to give him entire legion, for his use of troops is awful

I tend to never group my units as my defensive formations just get messed up when i need to move them around the battlefield. Me myself dont find any use of this function.
