Icon3 We did not immigrate to the United States.

We Caucasian Americans did not immigrate to this country. We conquered it. We nearly annihilated an entire ethncitiy of mankind to do it, on the Northern Continent anyway. After that, it became ours by right of war and occupation. It really is that simple. After the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln, African Americans were given their freedom and subsequently became entitled to that right as well. A culture which has evolved uniquely over the last 200 years is justified in seeking it's sustainment, especially against a group of immigrants who are coming over in such massive numbers to exert change upon it. True, after the country's foundations were laid several countries bequeathed to us immigrants looking for a better life. But these were from many nations, with many languages, with many cultures which could easily, thoroughly, and rather quickly absorb and become integral parts of our country. The case here is completely different. We see an influx of immigrants from the same ethnic backgrounds (that would be Native American/Latino) speaking the same language, having little differences in culture. The completely awesome power of this influx is being felt strongly by our country, in a way that was not felt by us in the past because of the transportation revolution of the previous century. Immigration to this country is actually the only thing keeping our country growing. But it needs to be reformed big time. And it needs to be brought under national control in a way that lets those here already Americanize properly.

If you have anything to add, please do. We welcome all comments, questions, suggestions.

    actually...*shrugs*...

I suppose it's to ignite some sort of highly polarized opinions that are undoubtedly out there in order to form a debate or something.

Or perhaps it's set in stone the reason we are in America.

    lol maybe I'm just lonely.

And I am not lord vader. I am the crowned basketmaker.

That probably doesn't make any sense. But whatever.

    bl00p:hmmm:

    what's a lurker?

I was trying to start an intellectual conversation by opening with such a flamboyant statement. So far, as you can see, it's not working.

Current immigration patterns will lead to the eventual creation of a Mexican Quebec, which will in due time break off from the rest of America. It's probably too late to prevent this.

I thought our current problems were a complex mix of economic changes, a globalizing economy, social inequity, political inefficiency and income disparity. It is so relieving to know it's just dark people, that's easy to fix.

Well Sphere, other people are not the problem at all. It's the very real possibility that their culture, their language, and their values (however similar they are to our own) will supercede our own. And last time I checked, African Americans are people of a darker complexion and they were not at all disparaged against in my topic starter.

As I said before, them coming here is not the problem. Let them in. It's the reason our country has a positive growth rate. But do so legally. Surely you don't have a problem with that.

the Mexicans don't want their own country. they didn't risk their lives to come to America just to break away from it.

may 5 is not the Mexican independence day, September 16 is. its not even a big deal there anymore. most of these ethnic holidays are used to show ethnic pride in America.

I'm neither an immigrant nor a conqueror.

I was born here, my father was born here, his father was born here. No need to go further back than that. I have no connection with the people who once lived in the Americas during the 1700's, so why bother?

This kind of thing often occurs with zealous nationalistic xenophobes living in Countries that only have a recent history. Look at what happened in the century after the unification of Germany.

My first family member arrived here in 1957. Is my French self personally responsible for genocide and slavery thanks to my melanin count?

EDIT: crap I'm from Wissembourg, I also committed the Holocaust!
