It was broadcasted on Kansas City Local News (3-31-08) that a medication, vytorin, whose creation was intended to rid cholesterol from the body, doesn't work. Once more, a study was actually done on the drug a while ago and the ineffectiveness was confirmed, but not made public until now.
The reason I have declared this knowledge on this site is to delve into the fact that our freedom and status of living are finally reaching a point of a peculiar sort of equilibrium. Let me explain:
Our society in the last fifty years has seen an explosion of medical research, not of course to say that is bad. However the capitalistic ideals of the companies doing that research it seems is conflicting with it's sense of right and wrong (should any of them, that is to say, have a sense such as that; perhaps that is too harsh....). Now at the same time, new disorders of the mind are being diagnosed all over the country, and those companies are providing their medications to aid and effect (of course, not cure, but who knows if that can be done yet) those disorders in a positive light.
Also in the last fifty years, we've seen a radical change in the way our society conducts itself, for example: we have fast food, we have two working parents (not to say that is bad, just an observation of the fact), and the activities of our daily lives has been grossly overhauled by technological revolution.
Now to get to my point regarding this "equilibrium:"
Suddenly we see that numerous Americans have disorders such as bipolar, depression, etc. Suddenly as well, we have a decreased standard as what is permissible in our foodstuffs (that is indeed a FACT; look it up, I won't bother citing anything). Suddenly as well, we have a new sense of recreation, personal development, and workforce obligations due to an increase in technology.
So:
-we are able to attain food at a moments notice (but it's not as healthy as it should be)
-we have an increase in medical research (and an increase in the diagnosis of mental disorders, which in turn prompts more medication to ameliorate those disorders)
-and we have more technology, accessibility, and information than ever before (and an increase in stress, and a decrease in the vigorous activities of our youth; I'm sure some of you have seen those commercials that actually tell children to go out and play...YOU HAVE TO TELL CHILDREN TO GO OUT AND PLAY?!?)
So, every comfort and development has resulted...in something I have termed: EQUILIBRIUM
