Desperately in Need of Mod Help

Hey,
So, I must first say that I have been absolutely oblivious to the existence of modding until now. I am a fervent Rome Total War player and would constantly question the historical inaccuracies and potential for modification that the game may had posed. So, about a week ago on my sixth or seventh full imperial campaign I decided to take a look at possible expansions, and I come across Rome Total Realism.

For the past three days I have tried to effectively download the mod, but have been unsuccessful. I realize that I am a bit late into the world of modding, with RTR first being released years ago, but I am still looking forward to implementing the modification.

So, here's a run through of what I have done thus far.

I own the Rome Total War 3 CD disc set, and Barbarian Invasion in the Gold Package.

1.) I cleared all remnants of Rome Total War from my computer (HP m8200n with Vista, (at least as far as I could see, I am no computer genius).
2.) I reinstalled Rome Total War, which was a version higher than 1.0, I'm assuming because it is a part of the Gold Edition. (worked fine)
3.) I installed Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion, which was version 1.5. (worked fine)
4.) I downloaded and installed the v. 1.6 patch for Barbarian Invasion. (worked fine)
5.) I downloaded Rome Total Realism, Platinum Edition Final Beta v. 1.4 and installed it, saving it to a folder other than the Rome Total War folder.
6.) I copied the files from the RTRPE folder into the RTW BI folder.
7.) I attempted to play the game, and the following error arose:
"Cannot open because MSS32.DLL was not found." ~ not exact words.
8.) Tried to copy the files from the RTRPE folder into the RTW folder.
9.) Same error.


If anyone could give me a hand with this, I would be greatly appreciative.

Frist off welcome to answer your question you have to installe it in the rome total war folder. Dont put it in the bi folder just deleat it and reinstalle it and dont put in a bi folder. If you have any more Questions come over here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=76. Other wise just let the installer do the work and when you look at the file location it should look like this "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\RTR\RomeTW.exe". If your not sure how to check that right click on the icon goto properties and look at the location.

Welcome to the forum.

Is there any particular reason why you tried to install a very old beta version of the game? The latest version of RTR PE is 1.9 - details of that are here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=104767

It's probably best to install the mod folder version which is available in this link; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=105336

Yea, I wasn't sure how to go about modding the original game, and I figured the "patches" for RTRPE stacked, thus v. 1.4 would be required for v. 1.6 and so forth.
