Default New to this mod and a few questions

Hi all, I have always been a total war enthusiasts since the beginning. I love history and these games have helped me learn more although a tad bit of inaccuracy exists. I am playing the Stainless Steel mod as Ireland and it is just awesome. I have a few questions that maybe you guys can help me with.

    1. Sometimes when i go to the campaign screens and click on factions, the game just turns off, I have Kingdoms 1.5 btw. Not really a problem, just annoying, so is that normal?

    2. What units have shield wall, i dont recall this formation in vanilla.

    3. Do settlements rebel less often in this mod? I HATE rebellions I guess they are supposed to be a challenge but they just piss me off.

    4. Whats this rr rc i read about? I recall being able to install them but i didnt because i did not know what they were.

    5. Does anyone else feel weird using cavalry? Maybe its because I was playing rome total war a few weeks ago, but the cavalry charges seem to suck, and when they start meleeing, well.. they die.

Thanks guys, great community with people who enjoy virtual war, i hope, and history.

Welcome to SS.Ireland is unbalanced as far as i know but fun.

Settlements don't revolt often, the ones that might/will revolt are those that are of other religion. If you just crusaded Cairo don't expect that you can hold it with less then 10 units if not more until your own religion grows a bit.

RC is just looks,it adds flag bearers.

RR is much more. The soldiers are divided in categories and this affects their cost, upkeep, training time etc. for example feudal units have a bigger upkeep but if they are in an settlement they have 0 upkeep. If you are new i would advise you to play 6.1. without RR and after you get more familiar with SS you could test RR.

People often complain that cavalry is op,meleeing spearmen and infantry with two handed weapons is not a good ideea, both have bonuses versus cavalry.

First of all, welcome to the forums. Second of all, there isn't any need to bump threads 2 hours after you post

It's the most well-known bug and it can't be fixed.

    2. What units have shield wall, i dont recall this formation in vanilla.
Your easiest bet is to check http://totalwar.honga.net/faction.php?v=ss6&encode=en

    4. Whats this rr rc i read about? I recall being able to install them but i didnt because i did not know what they were.
The installer provided links to information about these. Check the submods forum for details.

    5. Does anyone else feel weird using cavalry? Maybe its because I was playing rome total war a few weeks ago, but the cavalry charges seem to suck, and when they start meleeing, well.. they die.
Cavalry work fine for me. I believe they were made weaker in melee than in vanilla but were given a more powerful charge to compensate. It's better to use cavalry to charge, retreat and charge again.

And just as an FYI, these forums have a search function. Please use it as most of these questions get asked ad nauseum

Cavalry work well, maybe too well. After charge always retreat, remake the formation and charge again.Dont espect the cavalry to be good in melee, few mounted units are good in melee, and most vs light medium infantry. The uber cavalry units can kill lot of infantry, they always get experience very fast.Cavalry use like shock troops and always works for the zulu horns tactics and kill ruted units.Ireland get good cavalry units but not the power horse knights of France or HRE.
If you are new the RR will became very unpleasent, are lot of treads were ppl complaining about they cant recruit some units.Dunno about RC except what i read on forums and maybe installing make cavalry to lose a bit coehesion that why charges are less powerfull.
If you want to get a powerfull cavalry play the faction with good one.
After a crusade you get crusades orders units who are very good cavalry and heavy infantry units.
About rebeling settlements watch the public order things are same like in TW Rome.Above 70% is risky, less than 50% is very bad.Religion affect public order(you catholic and town conquered ortodox, pagan, muslim) than easy thing is exterminate, no ppl no revolt. If you love to prepare very well for an conquer is a easy way to send some of your priests to convert your target region. An spy for counter spy is good too and watch the general, some bad traits can make ppl very unhappy.
