    Default Diplomacy game!

I just made something funny to trick the diplomacy system in RTW!

Playing as Parthia in my own mod, I was at war with Seleucid, and because of this relationship no other factions are willing to make alliance with my faction (bunch of cowards ), and Armenia was suspicious of me since we share the same border. I got sandwitched between Armenia and Seleucid and couldn't do anything but hang around with my tiny army - half of stack of HAs.

But then, my chance came - a spy reported that Pontus just opened war with Armenia and allied with Seleucid. So I asked and got their alliance - and Seleucid's hatred on me immediately disappeared and they stopped recruiting more units on the regions close to my border! Then I broke alliance with Pontus, and sided with their enemy Armenia instead - who welcomed this too so they could concentrate all armies against Pontus.

Now Seleucid is left hopeless and the entire Mesopotamia will be mine within 5 years! Stupid AI factions!

I wonder if other players have tried this too?

Ofcourse... I sometimes use this to prefent Macedon from going North... Get an alliance with both Macedon and Thrace and keep a diplomat close to both factions. When the one declares war upon the other, you will get the option to choose if you want to side with the agressive faction or with the faction that has been attacked, simply choose one and start an alliance with the other again so they will be at peace again...

Ofcourse you can also use this to defent yourself against others...

I wonder why Seleucid stopped their hostility on me though. It's funny to turn the entire diplomatic situation of mine by one broken alliance

I've had Epirus do this to me. I'm allied with Illyria and sieging tarentum, they ally with illyria and my siege breaks. Carthaginians do this to me as well.

counter strategy: kill Epiros, kill Illyria, kill Carthage.

Not good when you just don't have the money to raise any troops....

Illyria doesn't go down until 219, epiros until 200ish, carthage until 148. It takes a while

I think there's some AI grand strategy involved. In some of my campaigns I've been completely isolated by the AI because of these various alliances.

I've heard that factions are less likely to attack you if you have a lot of allies...

Another result of these are that they allow big factions to focus all their energy on you.
