    Default Examples of non-western comedy

Wasn't sure if this was the right place or not...

I was just curious to see examples of comedy from non-westernized countries.

I've seen stuff from Japan (is that "western?")

What I'm really interested in is what is Arabic comedy like? Persian? Not so interested in India...

    I said I wasn't sure...

Well humour is generally understood by the locals. So you have to know the language AND the culture....I mean at least it's like that in Turkey. I know about the humour of many westerns(I understand them) and laugh...but I am pretty sure a western wouldN't understand the comedy I watch in Turkey(generally) even if what is being said was translated.
    I figured as much but...

    hmmm...

The "culture?" That's what I thought also. Some things wouldn't be understood without understanding the cultural context.

Could you think of something that would be comparable to something shown on American TV or some other western country?

What is the "type" of comedy?

Sorry this is confusing, I know...

In America although there're a variety of comedies and comedians I think it'd be safe to generally describe the overall humor as: crass

What about Turkey? Silly? Sedate? Dry?

I imagine there aren't too many shows/people poking fun at Islam.

The state doesn't come across as something that would enjoy a good laugh at its' own expense.

    ...?

There are of course examples but they're mostly targeted for locals and say some comedy movie that's made in Turkey may not sound funny to Americans or they might not even understand it,

Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

In Turkey, comedy movies usually make fun of stereotypical Turks or Europeans. Many criticize the past of Turkey through satirical means. Lately there have been a wave of Turkish comedy movies which only presents stupid stuff and expects you to laugh. They're kinda influenced by American comedy movies. Clearly I don't like them.

yeah....they like making fun of uneducated villagers....their lifes in cities(obviously they doN't get along well)
On the other hand, talk shows depend on the comedian.

Not many makes fun of Islam though Cem Yılmaz, in his last show pretty much poked any religion....and that was funny as hell

I dunno, Russell Brand got it in the neck for his criticisms at the VMAs.

(although apparently the only people who sent him death threats were the Jonas Brothers fans )
