    Default Killing the king/leader question?

    Hi total war players!

I played the americas+britannia campaign and now the crusades+teutonic. But when i killed Saladin (egypt) or The Lithuanian king. The hole faction was destroyed! WTF! I dont want to fight rebels but a real faction!
Is this normal when you kill the king/leader? I have patch 1.5

    Thnx

Hi, welcome to the TWC forums.

No, a faction does not rebel when you kill a leader. A faction can be destroyed when all their cities are captured or when all their royal family members die. In your case it might be that Saladin/Lithuanian king had no heir for some reason. So when you killed the faction leader (the last royal family member) it triggered their defeat.

Note this doesn't apply to the Teutonic Order. With the TO any general can become the new faction leader, so the royal family doesn't matter. As long as they have generals, you can't assassinate the TO into defeat.

Ok ok let me clear this up a bit the reason why people thinks that when they kill the King the faction is destroyed is because the Kiing is the last general of the bloodline that is it. A faction can have a King and the other generals that are not in the family tree/bloodline you know; that being said the only 2 way's a faction gets destroyed is either you take all of their settlements or you kill off their bloodline.

Agree, must have been the last surviving male member of the Royal Family for the faction to lose its colors

I think this can happen if that particular faction has no heirs, and your princess is married to their ruler. This way you can lay claim to their lands in the event that the faction is robbed of all kings and heirs. I've never done this myself personally though, so please don't take this for gospel. I've never tried it because my assassins never get more than an insignificant 5-8% chance for a king / heir kill. I'm patient with the game but assassins and merchants just get wiped out for me on their road to success and I'm not a re-loading kinda guy.

I did enjoy immense success with the pope though. I had five cardinals and one would become Pope. I'd take advantage of the Pope's favour and go kick the French about and whenever I got excummincated, I'd assassinate the Pope (chances of klling the Pope seem to be far better than assassinating Family Members), vote for my faction as Pope, and get a unanimous win (four to five voters are my factions other cardinals). That done, I'd be automatically reconciled and it was therefore time to go give the French another good kicking!

But I digress - yes you can take out a faction in the fraction of a second it takes to put a dagger through a leader's heart!!!
