Default v 6.1 bodyguard still way overboard...

i find that v 6.1 bodyguards are still way overboard (playing VH/VH). in my latest english game, a unit of 11 bodyguards managed to take out 3(!) full units of light men at arms (armored 2 times up) in city streets with no charging: just pure melee... that's a complete BS scenario...

Try using RR/RC, they're not so overboard there; the emphasis is on the guard in bodyguard

    I agree.
I remember I made a siege on a castle and I ended up killing every single one of my opponents men except the faction leader.

I had a little over 75 men left... a mix of Teutonic Order Spearmen, Prussian Archers, Halbbrüder, etc. and the king was the only guy left.
And every time my troops engaged him, they would just run away, and the ones that would engage would get slaughtered.
WTF?!?! Seriously... There is no way 1 guy can beat 70 dudes.

Well, there are stories of extraordinary generals/Kings/knights that slashed their way into hundreds...

Must have been the undying generals of the fatimids.

I swear, I once saw 1 single general making his way into a mosh pit of 4 150 spearmen units.

He survived for 30 secs on 6x speed...

    (and I have RR RC

most of my general do that on vinllia my byzantine general was the only guy left and he was going bresker and spazzing out angist 30 venice people kill 101 of them until the catplut got him at close range. i also remeber going angist 3 armys in BC with catpults the 1st shot on the 1st army it hit their captian i charged they ran away then the second army came and yet again the 1st shot killed their faction leader then did the same thing then the 3rd army it did the exact same thing killed anther general then when my faction leader was leading the charge a capult fired killed 15 of his guards and missed him by an hairs inch and i got an herioc victory in that battle. its amazing how easily generals die and also how hard they die.

    Historical facts FTW!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stirling_Bridge

Only one knight, the Yorkshireman Sir Marmaduke Tweng, showed great presence of mind and managed to fight his way through the thicket of spears back across the bridge; but over a hundred of his fellow knights were slain, including the plump Hugh de Cressingham, whose body was subsequently flayed and the skin cut into small pieces as tokens of the victory.

Surprisingly the man in question here is an Englishman.

There was one such episode at the Battle of Hallidon Hill in 1333 and again it was a battle between the Scots and the English. To start the battle, one English Knight and a Scottish Knight did battle in the in between the two armies, the Scotsman sent his Mastiff at the Englishman who promptly slew it and then single combat ensued. It ended with the Englishman cutting the top half of the Scotsmans skull off. The Englishman then promptly played a key part in the ensuing melee by himself in the thick of it Mel Gibson style.

Can't remember the details of the story but it was recorded in Cassels History of England.

I generally reason like this: I want to kill their general anyway. So if you can't take him down in the normal way, I just fight fire with fire. Especially eastern generals count as a high-priority target and I am quite willing to sacrifice 2 units to make sure the bastard goes down.

    Mistake admitted!

And back on topic, I'm starting to wonder:

Were there any medieval warrior types that were trained to go for the throats of enemy officers? As in: specifically trained to (or just frequently attempting to) take out enemy captains and nobles to lower enemy morale and command structure?

I'm not talking assassins, I'm talking field units in an already engaged battle.

    Anyone?

Because was no common mans, was the ultimate knights of king, the best of the best.Ussual happend few times, generals, princes and kings to been killed on battle easy. The most of time the last charge of the generals save the day and add morale raise on battlefield.

Yes, but all of those (maybe except the ballista) first shoot his entire bodyguard squadron, and only after that the king / prince / whatever falls.
