These guys are looking good. Assuming Keravnos was the advisor on the breastplates, I had a question to him on the evidence for these decorations, specifically actual breastplates if any have survived. I've seen Phillip's cuirass, and it was completely without any ornamentation.

Also some of the helmets, particularly Pergamese and subsequent ones, look VERY Roman. I know the theory that some Roman helmets go back to the so-called "Attic" type, but Attic helmets did not have a completely Roman shape, while these match Roman helmets to the t: the curving back, the space for ears, the shape of the side flaps, etc.

On the breast plate issue, I would like to put forward something that just occurred to me.

I suppose it was possible that there was 'dress armour' & battle armour for generals & officers at least? :hmmm:

2 exquisitely ornamented statue torsos found in Athens archaeological Museum. They are not Roman.

This is one. It is mounted. A big gorgoneion is depicted in the cuirass.

So far as the helmets are concerned, there was so much interaction and evolution between the two worlds, prior to Roman conquest that it is just impossible to tell what is Hellenistic and what is Roman.

So far as the sphynx helmet is concerned, I disagree. There are depictions of such helmets centuries before anything of Roman construction is shown.

How do we know it isn't Roman? Seeing its similarity to so many Roman cuirasses, and considering that Greeks were really unlikely to prefer marble/stone to bronze, opinion should incline towards Roman provenance unless shown otherwise.

I guess I'm asking if we have any surviving definitively non-Roman "Gallic A" etc Imperial-style helmets (because those helmets to me look Imperial...).

Beautiful amazing gorgeous skins... But what are those "face" symbols on most of shields - what's the "story" behind them? It looks like some french 17th century decoration stuff... Why they dont have some other symbols? Thanks for the answer
