Because it's not a Macedonian symbol.

Actually the pseudocorinthian helmets stayed up like that and weren't designed to be flipped down.

The sphinx helmet on the Pergamon general is based on one found on a greek coin and also at the base of the column of Antoninus Pius depicting the deified Roma, BTW:

Yep, Leif and Tone did some amazing work. It is very important to state, however that the Hellenistic era, especially the starting point of RS 2, is the penultimate evolution of Depictive art.

    Sculpture, especially.

Pergamon, which styled itself as "Nea Athena" or "New Athens" couldn't lag far behind. What you see below is the monument dedicated.. "to Victorious Athena by King Eumenes" created after the Allied (Roman and Pergamonian) victory at Magnesia over Seleucids under Antiochos III. The date was 190 BCE. It currently resides in Berlin.

I am a firm believer that it should be returned to Pergamon, Turkey, along with all the rest of the Athena Altar. It is part of Turkish legacy, as much as the ruins in Hattusha and other cities of the Hittites.

I think that this monument and others from all eras, especially the majestic buildings created in the Ottoman period, really put Turkey on the map so far as Archaeological Tourism is concerned. So, next time you are in Turkey, (especially the West coast, the Aegean one) do try to find out which archaeological sites there are nearby. A visit to the local museum will definitely be worth it, if you play and are enjoying RS 2. Who knows? You might see one or two of the helmets and/or armor pieces our units are wearing.

This also demonstrates why Turkey has been an integral part of what we consider as "Europe" for millennia. Even if not in strict geographical terms, (as it is consdered a part of Asia) but deffinitely so in historical, cultural and economical ones. Turkey has a lot of wonders of civilisation to show to anyone who is going over there. From Istambul to the Pergamon site to Ephesus and a lot more places, time is the only limit to what any tourist can watch, learn and enjoy. Once people have seen those, I personally think that EU admition is a must and a goal for any European to work towards because Turkey has always been an integral part of Europe.

I guess this also means that the Elgin Marbles be returned to Athens. I wonder how many artifacts should really be returned to the country they were removed from (so long as that country does not destroy them).

I've been lucky enough to visit Istanbul on three seperate occasions each time on the way down to Cannakale.

I managed to see Truva (Troy) in 1992 and also take in Bursa. My last trip there I travelled down to Bergama (Pergamum) and Selcuk for Ephesus. This trip also took in Goreme for Cappadocia and a visit to the archaeoligical museum in Ankara.

My only concern with Turkey is that many of these sites are not 'secure' in that people are able to climb all over them. I am sure that this could ruin the sites for future generations.

That is a great shame. I only hope they will remedy that soon, because once they are destroyed the heritage is gone forever.

First of all, let me say that those are terrific looking models. But, I am surprised to see a Carthaginian general in this preview. Carthage wasn't a Hellenistic civilization as far as I know. I'd be interested to know what sources you have that would point to classifying the Carthaginian Empire as Hellenistic.

are these going to be the family members on the battle map or just captains?
    what about bosporans,spartans and syracusans?
and what about the generals from the hellenistic/succesor generals preview?
are these new ones going to replace them?

It's because they all use the same model and thus saves space for other units.

Well, basically all those factions shown were all once apart of the same factions, Macedon with Alexander the Great. So of course they look somewhat similar.

    I love the helmet on the Carthaginian General. He's my new background(;
