I think a lot of people can listen to those styles of music. I know I can. However most prefer to listen to more contemporary music.
"Therefore I am not in favour of raising any dogmatic banner. On the contrary, we must try to help the dogmatists to clarify their propositions for themselves. Thus, communism, in particular, is a dogmatic abstraction; in which connection, however, I am not thinking of some imaginary and possible communism, but actually existing communism as taught by Cabet, Dézamy, Weitling, etc. This communism is itself only a special expression of the humanistic principle, an expression which is still infected by its antithesis – the private system. Hence the abolition of private property and communism are by no means identical, and it is not accidental but inevitable that communism has seen other socialist doctrines – such as those of Fourier, Proudhon, etc. – arising to confront it because it is itself only a special, one-sided realisation of the socialist principle."

For me it's a rather situational matter. It depends on my mood and what I'm into interest-wise, whether classical, baroque or also renaissance and medieval music gets in my play-list.
I'm heavily into atmosphere. The atmosphere I want in my home at a certain time decides, whether it's renaissance music or some spacey electronic ambient or some old jazz and blues...
No reason to be narrow-minded when it's about music.

I'm not a big fan of Baroque, but I do listen to a lot of classical. In fact, that's nearly all I listen too. I prefer music from the romantic period, 19th century; composers like Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Chopin etc.

Classical is excellent, and Baroque is brilliant, especially solo Baroque. It's extremely expressive, but not in the same way as Romantic music. It's like describing nature and beauty and love, but with maths. The perfect rhythym, the accents, creating perfectly broken chords and variations on those chords, all with only one note at a time. It's music you really have to listen too, you have to think when you hear it, to follow the notes. Subtly expressive. (obsiously) One of my favourite genres. You can't beat J.S Bach.
Though I listen to all kinds of music, Baroque, Classical, etc, is my favorite. I tend to focus on solo violin music, (because I'm a violinist), but that doesn't mean I exclude other instrumental solos, I'm just biased by my hobbie.
I'll second what the previous post said, and say Bach is pretty much the best thing to ever to happen to music.
By the way, if you haven't heard it, check out the Vitali Chaconne. It's not exactly a very popular piece, but it is very pretty, a veritable gem in music.
Take it easy,
Yeah I love Classical and Baroque. I thought my thread was going to die lol.
I know, he's awesomeYou can't beat J.S Bach.

^^ J.S Bach Prelude
I like Baroque and renaissance music but I cant stand much of 18-19th century music, except Chopin.
I like anything from Middle-Ages Gregorian chants, to upbeat profane music from the Renaissance to Chopin nocturnes. I do prefer Baroque and Romantic music to classical music, the latter is too 'tidy' for me.
For Bach-afficionados, here's something I found on a Bach-blog last week.
This is heresy I can tolerate.
"Tempus edax rerum." Ovid, Metamorphoses
Under the patronage of Virgil.
Meh, give me Handel any day over him.You can't beat J.S Bach.
In general I'm fond of all things rare and obscure mostly from 18th century, very rarely do I wonder out of that period.
Depends on the time and the place. If I'm about to play a sporting match-up, you'll more likely find Lil Wayne or Europe's Final Countdown on my playlist. If on the other hand I'm hankering to relax, classical is the way to go. I don't think anyone can honestly hate classical music, besides out of ignorance, because chances are if those people asked the musicians they do like about classical music, they'd only hear positive feedback about the musicality. If nothing else the music is timeless. Ask any artist nowadays how they would feel about their songs still being played often in 2300 and they'd be awed and thrilled at the notion. They've survived a very long time, and there's a reason for that.

Another possible reason is that they are still not found the right kind of classical music for them.I don't think anyone can honestly hate classical music, besides out of ignorance,
This genre is so incredibly diverse that there is likely something for everyones taste out there.

Different composers, yes.
But also different kinds of music - I listen to vocal music almost exclusively but then again I know someone (from another forum) who listens to solo piano music from the romantic period and very little else.
Personally, I would rather listen to no music ever again than put up with that kind of diet.![]()
