Well a sound but i suppose rather boring strategy would be to take Hamburg, Prague, Florence, Metz, Magdeburg and possibly Antwerp/Bruges ( The one further east) as soon as you can ideally in the first 20 turns and then consolidate you power for a while, if done correctly you should be able to field several elite stacks by the time your next expansion wave rolls around

As for what units to use i can't really remember as they are not my favourite faction, i think DM Imperial Knights had a Mace and therefore are good at killing heavy infantry, the only clear cut thing i can remember is that reiters are completely dominant and build as many of them as you can(Late period)

A handy tip would be to build a diplomat in Bologna and give the pope money in exchange for an alliance, then call a crusade to Jerusalem or somewhere far away and most factions will send their biggest stack to the holy land, which gives you an advantage in the early dash for rebel lands, or you could join the crusade and establish a crusader kingdom which iv never actually done but i hear its good

oh yeah and if you don't mind having a bad global rep (personally i do mind lol) you can eliminate denmark by waiting until their 1 and only army goes to take hamburg, they will leave 1-3 units in arhus and if you make sure the other army cant reach you in one turn you can take arhus and thus defeat a potentially powerful enemy straight away

I would recommend you at the very beginning to take as many rebel villages as you can. Florence, Bern, Hamburg, Magdeburg and Prague for sure. Then next thing is to eliminate Milan as fast as u can because they always backstab you and they can be pain in the ass. After you reached these goals just keep working up ur economy and army until someone attacks you. Then u can make powerful counterattack. Also when u are so far that u can recruit Feudal Knights and Teutonic Knights i love doing that i disband all the other units (exept town milita, which i keep in cities and they are free to keep), and make like 3-4 armies of Feudal Knights and Teutonic Knights. They are much effective for in my experience than those peasant archers and spear militia and so on..If u want another Blitzkrieg i would suggest you to take out France and Denmaks capital Arhus, that you wouldnt have so much fronts to defend.

And also another personal experience of mine is that theres no point of wasting money on pope unless u have lots of it, because all other factions attack you anyway, because of ur geograpigh placement. Usually i always end up exterminating rome because pope can be really annoying

You guys act like he should know this but he dosn't know what your talking about guys he got it like a week ago. First off you start out as one of the largest factions meaning your the best for expanding look on the mini map and head North and South to Itily and Scandinavia. You'll run into A couple other factions though. First try to get A good economy by
building trade markets to fund A larger army to take Itily. Scandinavia is easy ok? All thats there is the Danish Vikings and they only own Aarhus.
To the East is Poland and Hungary. They all pretty much can pawn you so yea.......try to avoid them. To the West is France and you can take them with Fortress level units. I'm probably not helping you A bit but good units to use is Roman specialists like impirial units for their Maces. Maces and Axes are the best wepons in the games because their effective against armour so it takes away your enemys armour bonus. So if You encounter Fuedal Knights with level 8 armour they take that away so it comes down to their total Defence. So i would say HRE is A . Go for it though your not gonna do very well gain experiance for your next HRE campaign.

I forgot to mention........they have excellent late period units like mounted shot-gunners and the best cavelry I think in the game kind of like the Danish war clerics,.......the unit is Roman Gothic knights.
Their heavily armoured with level 10 armour with armour peircing Maces.

The main problem with HRE, my current campaign, is that you start with a sliver of land that can be attacked from all sides at once. My immediate strategy was to first take all the rebel settlements I could then try to be able to connect Bologna with the rest of the empire. Next step is to take Arhus and either extend to Scandinavia or, if your stretched thin, fortify Arhus and Hamburg and build up again. Since you've extended from Scandinavia to italy instead of being vulnerable from all sides, its just left and right. From this point Denmark and Poland both tried to invade me at the same time. The polish nobles are hard to beat but if you stay in your cities and make them siege their maneuverability is void. The Danes are easy to beat. Let them siege Arhus or Hamburg then once you beat their army move to take Stockholm. Use this same strategy to beat the polish. Their missile cavalry are vicious but hop from city to city.(or castle)Once you take a city let them attack, beat them their with the defense, then with their army weak, attack the next city. Rinse and repeat as needed. After taking Arhus from the danes and about half of the Polish territory the pope made me make nice so I stopped beating down on them. At this point take some time and money to up your economy then weait until someone attacks you and take their land. You should be just about unstoppable if you use the city hopping method and continue this retaliation to conquest process until you've won.

And yes. Reiters own. Especially when paired with Gothic Knights for melee.

Ye Gothic Knights are quite good and i'l admit they look awesome but since your not very experienced i would recomend you stick with teutonic knights as they are cheaper to recruit and upkeep and i think stats-wise the are on a par with the Gothic Knights

To recruit Teutonic Knights you will have to get the Teutonic Order guild, i always get the offer of building it in Frankfurt very early on but i don't actually know what triggers it soz sum1 else might be able to tell you though

I would expand towards the french and about 2 provinces towards Poland. Poland grows fast so watch out, the french are dirty, I mean bad strategist and will be a push over because they will also be fighting the english. You want to gain favor with the papal states by becomming an allie and start a crusade as quick as you can.
Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.

France should be easy pickings, in the early game. They most have militia, or even peasants since most of their many settlements are cities. If you want to strike at them, do it quickly.

Milan, on the other hand, are not an easy early target thanks to their militia. Same goes for Venice. Best to allow the Italians some time, so you can train professional forces strong enough to beat their militias (which are professional quality).

I actually started a campaign as the HRE the other day. Their starting place is great if you are looking for a large amount of settlements, because the rebels have cities and castles everywhere. I suggest that you wait to mobilize until you receive your first mission, which is usually, if not always, to take a rebel settlement. Take the settlement you are told to take first, so you get the extra bonuses, you don't want to commit your armies to a siege in the oposite direction of the mission objective. Watch out for Milan! I made an alliance with them, and they stabbed me in the back at the first decent oppurtunity. Being new to the game, I did not realize the threat and got pounded until they got excommuniated I used my alliance and friendship with the pope (a couple hundred Florians per turn doesn't hurt) and convinced him to call a crusade on Milan, Milan. I proceded to desmantle Milan at the pope's pleasure The point is: make good friends with the pope and the Papal States.
If you face me in battle you had better rout quickly, or you might be captured...

This is not always true in my opinion because you realize playing as HRE you have to kill them right?(well, sorry I mean take Rome wich is theirs....)
