    Default crusader vassals

I am currently playing with HRR and I my alliance with deutshe ritterorden was broken because I joined the crusade against egypt and egypt was their ally....
I have noticed this a few times now when playing a campaign. For some reason, after some time the small states in the middle east, kingdom of jerusalem (the one with the name that is impossible to pronounce..) and deutshe ritterorden become allies with egypt or turkey and later even vassals. This seems a bit strange to me. Is there a reason for this or is it just something that accidently happens? Id say it should be (nearly) impossible for christian crusaders to ally with muslim countries.

I guess if you do mean Crusader states only then maybe it should be harder, but for any other Christian or Orthodox faction... alliances should be free to branch in all directions.
Factions should be allowed to ally with any religion they want, yes maybe it should be harder to do so - but not impossible. After all the campaign is an alternate path in history, so why not?

Yes I agree that it should be possible to make alliances with religious difference but I think its a little strange that the crusaders become very close friends with the muslims in that area. Id say it is very unlikely. Turn on the news this evening and wait for the news from Gaza....you'll know what I mean.

Actually, you're looking at the region through the prism of the current conditions there. During the Crusader Period, alliances were more the norm than actual fighting. Even European Crusading Monarchs often became friends with Muslim leaders. Conrad II of the HRE became friends with the mamluk Sultan Baibars, and they kept up a life-long correspondence. Richard I and Yusef Salah al-Din ibn Ayyubid had a fondness and respect for each other which helped end the 3rd Crusade without the remnants of the English and French Crusaders being butchered by the vastly superior Islamic force.

In most cases, the Crusaders were in the Holy Land, not for religious reasons, but for economic ones, often looking for new lands and a cut of the spice trade. Many of the Barons and similar Nobility prefered not to war with their Islamic neighbors when they could be trading with them instead.

In that case, I must have missed a history lesson somewhere Thanks for the info! Im currently playing as HRE but unfortunatly all relations with muslim factions are abysmal, no correspondance with the sultan for me

    EDIT:

Hmm I have two new questions. In one of my regions is a rebel fort with 10 units in it or something. In front of the fort is a rebel army with 20 units. So I thought it would be best to attack it with two armys. because of natural obstructions the armys are all lined up. From left to right its rebel fort, rebel army, my general with full army, my captain with cavalary for reinforcements. Now, for some reason when I attack the rebel army he gets the reinforcements from the fort behind it but I cant get my reinforcements from behind me. Why is that? Because of a forest to the north and mountains to the south I cant get my reinforcements any closer and Ive tried fighting the battle with ust the generals army but Ive been slaughtered twice so far...

I realise this is a bit complicated without a picture which brings me to my second question, I cant make screenshots. When Im ingame and hit printscreen and I paste it in paint I get a completely black image. I have vista 64 as ost, anyone else who have had this problem?

    Thanks for the help.

I think, you could proceed in two ways.
Either build a watchtower somewhere near the fort to lure the rebel general away (for some reson rebels try to occupy spots with watchtowers) and then defeat the rebels one by one.
Or you could wait a bit, train some advanced troops (or hire mercenaries) and win a heroic victory. )))

I have Vista x64 also, and screenshots work perfectly for me. - However I did have this problem when using mods for Rome: Total War, and it was solved by restarting the game - not sure how else to help you sorry
