    Default Reassigning ownership of Cities

So I want to start a new campaign as the Julii in Vanilla, but there seem to be two main problems to this: The Scipii and Brutii.

The concept of three families all commanding their own armies and whatnot is just... well, it's downright silly, really. I'd really rather just do away with the whole concept.

I originally tried to do the whole "force_diplomacy" cheat to have them hand over their cities at the start of the campaign, but it didn't seem to work.

Also, I can't seem to find any mod that I really like that did this for me(except EB, which I cannot play seeing as it slows my computer to such a mind numbingly slow speed I cannot derive any enjoyment from it. Patience is not one of my virtues) I figured i'd just edit the game files to have the Brutii and Scipii family cities start off under my possession at the beginning of the campaign.

The only problem, of course, is that I have no idea how to do this.

Which is where all of you intelligent, attractive people come in.

You can edit the descr_strat file in the Imperial Campaign folder so the Julii can get them at the start of the campaign. You can't leave them without a region, though (as far as I know), and I don't know what would happen if you delete the Brutii and the Scipii altogether.

In the XGM mod there is only one main Roman Faction, though there is another, Rome(Rebels) in pretty much the same place as the scipii. If a single rome is what youre looking for that's what i'd recommend.
I'm sure the modding forums would be a better place to ask if you want this on rtr though.

Yup same thing with EB. I'd recommend checking out some mods, since it makes the game 10x better.

He said EB slowed his computer down.

:hmmm:...this seems weird. He knows enough about "modding" to attempt to make the changes himself but he doesn't know about any other mods besides EB?

Is this a real round-a-bout way of asking: Recommend me a mod?

Frequently Asked Questions...Not sure why this thread wasn't opened here previously...maybe it was and it disappeared...But Please read this thread before posting questions about RTR

If you even casually read a non-fiction (re: history) book on the Roman Republic, you'll recognize that the "three family system" and Senate faction as modeled in vanilla RTW is not even remotely historically accurate. The civil wars were between individual generals and their individual legions. The Roman Republic was never, ever, ever, ever, ever divided into individual familiar or factional sub-political-entities. The only time the Roman Empire was ever divided in the way RTW depicts was during the time the Empire was split between East and West. And that is way beyond the timeframe of the original vanilla RTW game and RTR 6.0 Gold. When you play as "The Romans", you are playing as the Roman Republic historically existed: As one unified political, social, and military entity.
...looks like someone beat you to it...lol

EDIT: you can try Imperator II also (a good looking mod...lots of small graphic changes/additions that make it...a (bleep)ing good game!

I know about a lot of other mods. I've acctually tried out EB, RS, and RTR, I just didn't like any of them.

If there is a mod where all it does is remove the two other roman factions, and is otherwise identical to vanilla, please point me towards it. Otherwise, I am uninterested in mods.

Out of curiosity what is it that you like so much about RTW: Vanilla?

It's just interesting that you find the three-family-system "silly" but you're fine with flaming pigs, screeching women and retarded dogs.

:hmmm:...I wouldn't mind having the Senate & their missions as a part of a realism mod. I don't think it should be a "faction" with an army/territory but there should be some type of Senate...

It isn't that I think those particular units are realistic at all, or that I particularly enjoy vanilla, it's just that I want to play the unmodified game. The other mods I downloaded had their own problems that I couldn't ignore. RTR had an ungodly number of cities that led to an ungody number of sieges, EB slowed my computer down and required me to follow a set pattern of actions or go completely bankrupt, and RS had that whole "independant states" faction that required me to fight a full stack army every time I took a city.

Getting frustrated with these things over the months just kind of made me get sick of mods and want to play the game as it was released. Except for that which I wanted to change.

Like the missions in M2? That would be nice yes, although the rtw family system means that most factions will always be unrealistic.

I would say play XGM. Its more like vanilla extra super deluxe whereas EB is an entirely new game.
