Default Fast forward from Rome, need help

    Hi guys,
I am a big time Roma Surrectum fan and have decided to get back to MED2. I only have played MED2 and Kingdoms on vanilla, never with a mod. I hear a lot of great things about BC, SS, GrandCampaign, and DLV.

I think I have ruled out BC because the mid east focus does not really interest me. I hear wonderful things about SS and the Med Grand Campaign. Basically I have narowed things down to MGC and DLV, but I really do not understand the true nature of this game. I read its a lot more role playing, which sounds great, but just how intense is it....

Basically I guess I am asking for some opinons...the guys on the BC page gave me a lot of great feedback and had some nice things to say about DLV....I guess I would just like to hear what some DLV fans think of not only this mod but some of the other popular ones, thanks and Reps to all!!!!

Haha I am also a big RS ran

    - Stainless Steel, is a great mod - with many factions that differ to DLV, however the amount of mini-mods that there are and complications with installing will leave you finding you need to re-install god knows how many times. The battles in Stainless Steel have more depth because there are more variety of units, and more custom battle map locations to choose from. It also has a large modding community with itself with it's followers trying to make the game better.

Campaign-wise, Stainless Steel also focuses more on the the middle east and west Asia. The Americas have been removed from the game so no crossing the Atlantic to find angry aztecs . However because of this, there are new factions such as the Order of the Knights Templar (fantasy), and the Cumans etc. The maps stretches across to far west Persia.

    - Deus Lo Vult, the ultimate Role-playing mod for M2:TW, the campaign has far more depth than any other mod that exists, as well as User friendly tutorials when first starting up. It is extremley hard and will leave you feeling battered and bruised but you will be happy . There are so many Role-playing elements it's impossible to name them all, but from finding legendary swords, to crowning - promoting your generals through the ranks to locking them in dungeon - DLV will test your metal. Keeping the Americas (but actually accurate this time) and of course and without restrictions you can cross them early in the game as any of the factions, and develop an economic Powerhouse - providing you can actually destroy the Aztec tribes. If you do decide to download DLV, it's best to choose the Historical campaign

The choice is down to you at the end of the day,

    Largepaws!

Don't belieeeeeve anything me or Sir Dauntless say regarding DLV - we are both addicts as our sigs.(we are forced to wear) show. Anything we say about this mod can't be relied upon as we're hopeless DLV junkies. :o)

Lmao! I gave a fair balanced argument for each mod showing strengths and weaknesses of each

maybe there is a 'little' bias towards DLV - but we need more people here! Stainless Steel always seems to have double the amount of people viewing

    @ Largepaws

    Deus Lo Vult FTW!!!

Stainless Steel have more viewers and players because DLV MOD is too hard for them....only PRO players play DLV...the beginers seems to stick with SS ... I just got too bored with SS...no chalange at all...in SS you could eliminate half the factions and you won't have to take part to any batle ...just bribe 3-4 of the strongest Factions to attack the others....
but in DLV ....I never seen a MOD harder than this one...it makes me go nuts and hit the keyboard with my forehead ...but is fun...I love this mode...and trust me once a players tries DLV...he will never go back to other mods ...only I and others will leave DLV for another mod...like Lord of The Ring MOD ....I'm waithing for it to be released .....I'm a big fan of LOTR Movie !!!!

Haha I love you excellent views there. It's true - DLV is for the Total War extremists!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Oh and there are 2 ubersupreme LotR mods for Rome: Total War, www.lotr-tw.net (based upon the movies) & www.thefourthage.org (after the third age) to save the wait for the Third Age

I think I have tried out all the LOTR MOD so far....an trust me...since I was started to play Medieval 2 Total War and Kingdoms Expansion .... I have never playied Rome/Shogun/Medieval 1 .... because I just can't stand anymore to their Graphics ... I prefer to keep playing M2TW who has a much better Graphic than spend my time with those....with no offence those games were great at their times...
I think I will wait for the Third Age to show up....even I'm not sure if it will come....I don't know if the team is still working on the MOD ...or not....

Oh the Third Age will come - it will take time though, probably around when Empire is released.

There are too many excellent Modders working on it for it to just die,

I'm pretty sure Tokus himself is? According to his profile "Developer: The Third Age Total War"

Great responses guys thank you much! That was a big question I had about SS, what could I be missing here because there are so many viewing it's boards each day! DLV does sound a lot of what I am looking for, I am big on the historical aspects of the time, and the "micro manage" aspect really seems to make this game tempting. I believe I read that DLV will install in its own folder, it won't change the main MTW files right? For example, I installed KGC last night to check it out, can I go ahead and install DLV now as well without having to delete the other games or re-install?

Yes, I helped King Kong do some 2D faction symbols for The Third Age.

If I had the time I'd have played the beta I was allowed but honour demanded I erase it from my drive when I professed that real life duties and my business demanded all my time. Even DLV time :o)

Can't really recommend any other M2TW mods by hard experience. I've only glanced at SS and others but couldn't play as they lacked the stuff I really like in DLV. Began graphics for DLV the day M2TW came out, in the day before days (I picked a winner there lads!). Happy to help Repman because of enjoyment of BareBonesWars for RomeTW.

It installs in it's own folder yes, and doesn't affect the vanilla files at all.

Just confirmed that by booting up vanilla - works fine. So therefore your other mods should too

Yeah, Largepaws, hang on for a few days. Rumour has it Repman may release a major new landmark version of DLV with everything wrapped up in it soon. But it is dangerously good fun. I recommend to dump yer grrlfiend, give any pets away to good homes, order up on beer, fill the fridge and take out a discount card from your local pizza delivery guys. Oh, and you'll need to tell everyone you've off abroad for few weeks as good cover otheriwse they'll wonder why you've not been seen. DLV gives you that MTW original role playing feel.

Hmm... is that a hint for Repman is releasing a real 5.8 soon, not a Beta?

He may release another beta, I dunno - if he does Largepaws then I heartedly recommend you try DLV and the latest offical beta from Repman. But hang loose for a wee while if it looks likely the next landmark numbered editon comes out. Repmn's enjoying his skiing holiday and will be back refreshed.

Haha, awesome. This mod may be just what I need then! Our winters are pretty long and cold out here in Wyoming. Nothing better then a good TW game to pass the time!

i have the grand unit addon mod, its pretty cool. it basically just adds all the units from kingdoms to m2. plus it unlocks units that were never activated

So does DLV - but adds even more - and activating units that were never originally available isn't that hard to be honest
