Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
3GB1 Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Size: 320GB2 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS
    High Definition Audio 2.0
Dell Wireless 1395 802.11g Mini Card

Thanks, and sorry for opening so many threads- I'm not techy in the least bit

Not very well its a complete waste of money buying as laptop for serious gaming. you'll get the performance of a less than $300 desktop.

M2 it oughta be able to handle pretty well, hell a geforce 6200 will handle m2 perfectly fine. EB i'm not sure about though. not saying i have doubts, i just have no idea.

its sad but true. unless there is an underlying reason to need a laptop, i would stick to desktops. you can always change and upgrade a desktop.

theres a great laptop at pc world. acer 7730. 4GB ram. 160 HD 2GH duo core processor. the only thing that lets it down is the graphics card. 256. 17" screen and only £430 in the sales. sounds good to me

Firstly, would people stop hammering "Desktops are better" everytime a Laptop topic comes up, and actually try and help! Yes, they are clearly better, but people have their reasons for getting Laptops instead. By all means say "Get a Desktop if you can", but please appreciate some people require a Laptop for both work & gaming. I bought a Laptop for games in September, and it's done fine for me since. Granted I would've much rather had a desktop, it just wasn't feasible for me.

He's in America. Granted that's not clear, but what's the point of a laptop for games where the graphics card lets it down?

The 8400 GS will run the game, but it won't run it well. 128MB of memory won't hold up for any large battle without some large stuttering. If you had any plans to play Empire, i'd guess it would run on low, but be awful for it.

The base Dell XP 1530 should be fine, aslong as you spend an extra $100 changing the 8400M to an 8600M GT. My sister had one (before she stupidly broke it), which I tested Oblivion on, and it ran it on medium-high smoothly (20-30 FPS) (no AA though), but that was an 8600M GS, which is a bit worse, so the 8600M GT should be able to cope slightly better. You won't need to change any other specs on it, just the graphics card upgrade.

Point is, if you plan to play any new games on it, that graphics card upgrade is needed, otherwise any new games will just be slow, and you may have to buy an entirely new machine to play them. This site is a bit sketchy in it's descriptions & comparisons, but it helped me evaluate things when I was purchasing my laptop in the summer. For games, that graphics card is the key component.

I have an XPS M1530 and it works ok, although sometimes it gets a little hot. I have Intel 2.4ghz and an 8600GT though, so that might be why it is good. lol

    Great!
EDIT: So I can play M2 if I have the base 1530 but with the graphics card Musthavename recommended? I have all the money ready in cash.

Well, what I mean is I would not go any lower then that. You need to get the 8600GT if you really want to get it. And a better processor would not hurt ether.

Aslong as the 8600M GT is in there instead, it should fit your needs fine.

The only true gaming laptop. Whats cool is I think the price dropped $1500 since a couple months back thanks to all the new hardware.
