    Default Norway in Brittania?

I just can't seem to get a hang on playing Norway. I start out
with low income and military; Spread out conditions, and A low economy.
I try to get high culture so i can get Huscarls and such because I love Vikings as you can tell by my name......unless your mental or something.

But anyone have ideas because i'm sure the starting islands are going
to support my army so my logical next enemy is Scottland. So moving
inward twords Inverness and Edinburgh is the answer but its tough and with my poor economy i can't recruit new infantry; along with the fact my starting armies are no match for even Scottland! The reinforcements that come i use to unite my islands so they won't help my occupation so any tips?

    Thanks

Do you guys even know who Olaf was? A famous Danish viking like Eric
the Red and Leif Ericson who conquered Islands; Kind of like my situation with Norway.......

He was king as A matter of fact; Olaf Grimtooth I beleive was his nickname.

Historical innacurasies hurts my eyes. Eric the red and Leif Ericson were both Norwegians.

Well you could wait for the event when the king of norway arrives with a large fleet and army and use that army to take inverness and do considerable damage to Scottish military capabilities

i would take aberdeen next and be wary not to expand too quickly because if you do and u have no large garrisons near inverness when William W emerges ur screwed, at least in the short term

After the reduction in kings purse you won't be able to support many large armies so use armies coming off boats with a catapullt in the stack to take poorly defended settlements in 1 turn before reinforcements arrive

Nehoo its just opinion but i hope it helps gd luck

Edit: ah i missed the bit where u say u use the reinforcement fleet to unite ur islands, so just ignore what i said, although the 3rd bit should still come in handy

Alright. I'm considering myself quite experienced in the Norwegian ways in Brittania, so here we go.

First of all, you should place your merchants near the textiles at Stornoway, Wick and one should descend to Wales for the Gold near Pembroke (which is southern Wales). Then you might want to ally up with the Irish, and get some nice trade agreements. You could consider getting trade agreement with Wales and England, but for the time being I'd go with Wales. You do need to wait with the diplomats though, unless you want to ship them out from Kirkwall, which takes a hell of a lot of time.

Up next is the preparing the invasion near Glasgow. For some ridiculous reason, AI always leaves Glasgow next-to empty. Preparing from your capital, Castle Town, you should get some Svenner, huscarls, norse archers and some norse swordsmen to get a foodhold on the mainland.

When the reinforcements arrive you should either take Inverness with it, or the many rebel settlements on the islands and in the highlands. Doing the latter will eventually provide you with about 800~1000 income per island, and on long terms even more. If you take Inverness however, any threat to the north is reduced by a lot. I'd go for the islands though. I suggest you convert any castle at the islands to cities, as well as Inverlochy and eventually Dumfries. I'd wait with Dumfries for a while though, since Scotland tends to try to take it.

In the meantime you've probably acquired Glasgow, and you should immidiatly make it your capital, as any troops get recruited there, and the textiles where your merchants are going get about 20/30% more income. Since Dumfries is now isolated, why not helping the Scots out by taking it?

When King Haakon arrives, make two invading forces: from the about (I do not know the exact numbers) 5 Viking Raiders, 4 dismounted Huscarls, 3 Gotland footmen, 4/5 Crossbowmen, 3 Svenner and 2 Huscarls, you should get 2 Viking raiders, (1 Gotland footmen) and 1 crossbowmen-unit to Aberdeen. The bloody lot of em go to the Scottish: Perth. Since there will be around 3 full stacks running around at the Stirling plains, you might want to hurry. Also, I suppose that you build some Svenner at Wick, for charging down William Wallace when he emerges (in my game, his bodyguard was 60 highland nobles). He didnt stand a change, since I surrounded him with about 12 Svenner and charged him to death. He was the first to fall and the rest of his army was broken in no-time. However, when this is done, there should still be a highly-guarded Inverness, some stacks near Stirling, and a near-to deserted Edinburgh. Only take Edinburgh if you feel you can lose some men at Perth. By this time you should have little to no money issues since you have your merchant at the gold near Pembroke, and some nice textile merchants up north. However, you should build as much merchants as you can. With Perth as capital, the Dyes in northwestern Ireland give about 100 per Finance, the Silver in southeast Ireland about the same, and the Gold in southern Wales gives about 200/300 per Finance level. However, be wary of that you never have two merchants in the same province dealing the same stuff.

Also, make sure you always fight ONE faction at a time. I'd stay allied with the Irish for as long as possible, since then you have a secure border to the east. Once Scotland has been dealt with, go south. I suggest taking Lancaster first, and ally up to England/Baron's Alliance whoever hasn't control of it. Taking Lancaster first means you have a Castle/Fortress down there, being very helpful. Pay attention that you do not border Wales yet. Just take out England/Baron's Alliance out settlement by settlement. If it's England you're dealing with, you should take any settlements north of the Lancaster-York line. These include Carlisle and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

When you're up to the next stage, give a shout in this thread here.

Ok thanks Reeve I followed almost accordingly......My situation with Norway is I control Inverness,All islands next to Scottland,I am the richest and strongest faction with over 20,000 soldiers with armour upgrades like
Gotland footmen, raiders, huscarls, ect. I own only Caernarvon in Whales but have A few thousand soldiers outside the major cities like Pembroke and Montgomery.I have armies outside Every Scottish city still alive like
the capital and Edinburgh; it's turn eleven; my king has arrived and I parked his army outside the Scottish capital. The thing is I was occupying Scottland and An English diplomat came and offered me an
Alliance, Trade Right, and map Imformation. What I didn't know was that England was Allianced with Scottland so when I accepted my war became
nuetral. I have an iron hold on Ireland after Dublin rebeled against England
Since the Barons alliance has already begun i figured i could betray England with most of their army dealing with Barons and wipe them off ireland so i could fight the winner of England vs Barons alliance.
All Countries have under 5,000 so since I have 20,000 only all of them together are A match for me but while their all at each others necks I figured i'll pick em off 1 by 1 so with 10,000 vikings parked outside every Scottish settlement i'll ship them next to Ireland while England and Barons fight then come back and eliminate Whales. After all this you would think i'm doing excellent and I am I feel i'm forgeting something :hmmm:

    Well anyone see A flaw in this tell me because it's only turn eleven;
I havn't even got gunpowder yet; i hope it comes soon well thanks.

Just assasinate Wallace, his army is average and judging by what you said about your power it wont be a challenge at all

The castle to the southwest of Inverness is Inverlochy. Southwest of that is Dumfries (castle too). Fort is in between Inverness and Inverlochy.

    I won. At Aproximately 11:30 pm, Turn number 38, year 1294 A.D.
I eliminated England at A spectacular battle of London like A 2nd Hastings.
And so united The British Isles under 1 banner. The mighty Vikings of
Norway! (disregaurd this Danish flag.......) But i'v learned something though. My cities were very disorganized many with red happiness and low income after I captured and exterminated and held till I completed my campaign in Southern England. I hope my next Brittania campaign will be better and more organized when I return After I beat
Tuetonic campaign playing as Denmark!!!!!!!!! (now regaurd the Danish flag!!!!!)
