Default The Lumbard Berserker Who Wouldnt Die

Inspired by the WTF moments thread.

I was playing my roomate in college on multiplayer, 1 v 1 Vannilla. He was Germania and I was Greece. We played 1 million deneri, no more than 6 of one unit.

Anyhow right at the start of the battle my roomate messed up and sent all his berserkers into rage mode and they charged across the field and arrived at my right flank. I laughed and dispatched 6 spartans and some calvalry to kill them. The spartans attacked from head on and the left flank. I had calvalry charge from the right flank.

I was hoping and planning on that fight to be over quickly but eventually I was forced to pull a unit of spartans and the calvalry to meet my roomates main line.

I quickly worked to defeat his main line, slowly winning the battle. However I was no longer laughing. The berserker units were mostly routed but the few remaining tattered units refused to rout or die for that matter. My own units were slowly decreasing in size.

As the battle raged on the berserkers were whittled down to one man. But my own units were still shrinking. I began to wonder if they would win. Cursing my chuckling roomate I focused on wrapping the main battle up.

By the time I finished routing the rest of my roomate army only one tattered spartan unit remained, the lone berserker was on a heroic killing rampage or some such nonsense. I rushed the rest of my army over to help the spartans. They werent in time, when they arrived my last spartan was fleeing the field. A fully upgraded Spartan fleeing.:hmmm:

The fight dragged on, now my roomate was laughing. He had lost the battle but his final man refused to rout. All the while my troops were falling. Several more of my units were wiped out or routed. Finally the lone berserker fell. I won the battle but that berserker was amazing.

At the end of the battle his one unit had 700 kills while the entire rest of his army only had 200.

Lol i know what you mean , and i have a story of a similar person but its even more heroic in a sense:

I was in Athens as the Scipii (Vanilla, bien sur), and i had men on the walls but the attack was not easy - i had about as many men as them and only an early legionary army.

I had a few 1st legions on the walls but they were being crushed one one side by 2 units of armoured hoplites and 2 units of peasants on the other.

Needless to say, almost all of my attention was on the hoplites. But my 2 1st legions were wiped out with about 10 casualties to them.

I had one legionary left who was facing down 40 armoured hoplites behind and 2 units (120) peasants behind.

Of course all this time I was rushing to get some triarii from the other side of the gate, where they were having a hard time (they were killing and not dying well, but it was taking a looong time).

The peasants didnt move and this lone man slowly and methodically killed the 40 armoured hoplites. He then turned around and on my command, attacked the peasants!

He 'died' twice but got up again in that way that you see men do sometimes. In the end he had killed 41 + 136 = 177 kills! 40 armoured hoplites!

By the time he had killed about 10 peasants, the triarii arrived but I just let them watch...

My cavalry pushed for the centre whilst this happened and he finished a little before they got there. Unfortunately, as some casualties were healed, he was drafted into a unit of reinforcements that had not arrived initially, so i couldn't retrain him or anything
