Default Problem getting the game to work.

I've downloaded IBFD Ruina Romae to the correct directory as far as I can tell, but it hasnt made a shortcut.

My ibfd folder contains a folder called data and one called options which appear to contain everything, but it does not work. I also have an icon saying IBFD inside the Rome Total War folder, but not inside either the IBDF folder or BI folder. When I click this it simply starts the install programme again.

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong?

Just create a shortcut of that icon on your desktop, and don't forget to write down the correct paths in the target and start in lines. If you have any more problems, just ask .

Did as you said, but the icon still just links to reinstalling the game.

:hmmm:Are you sure you're not clicking on the installer icon instead of the mod icon? The mod icon looks like a comitatense with yellow letters that read IBFD on front of him. If that is the icon you're clicking on, could you please tell me what paths show up on the 'start in' and 'target' lines, in the properties window?

I am clicking on an icon that matches that description. It just keeps linking back to the installer. I right clicked it and clicked properties but cannot find any 'start in' or 'target' lines. Is that how I am supposed to find start in or target lines?

The mod icon should be in your root folder. Place the cursor on it and the first line of the label that'll appear should read "Type: icon". That's the one you're looking for. Just right click on it and create a shortcut in your desk. Once there, click on properties, select the shortcut tab and write down the correct paths in the 'start in' and 'target' lines. Now that I remember the installer icon looks almost exactly like the mod icon just a little bigger if I'm not wrong. probably that's the reason that you're getting confused. if you're not sure about how the correct paths are supposed to go, just let me know .

I did as you asked. However when I click properties there is no tab called shortcut. It says it is an icon type of file. (.ico) It also says it opens in windows picture gallery. I can find no target and start in lines. What should I do?

an icon file doesn't have those properties.
what you do is to make a shortcut on your desktop to 'RomeTW-BI.exe' in that folder.
right click - properties the shortcut
in the line Target: add '-mod:ibfd' without quotes
it will look like this (of course your root drive might be different)
    "E:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod:ibfd
    you can now play ibfd
you can, if you wish rename the shortcut, edit the icon, or add switches to the shortcut but you got the basic thing.
In Vista, however, as you said your OS was, I do not know about enabling administrator priveleges w/c you might have to do.

    cheers

Just to check what should the icon say in the 'start in' line?

Hmm, I still havent got the game to load properly. Depending on which particular combination I try in the 'start in' line it either doesn't start, seems to start and then immediately crashes, or occasionally shows me a brief shot of the IBFD screen before crashing. Any ideas?

DO NOT change the 'start in' line, changing that will simply cause your shortcut to not work
    change the 'TARGET' line.

Yes, but even when originally when I did not change the start in line the game did not load.

The following are the paths found in the icon that I have and that works right:
    target: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - IB\RomeTW-BI.exe" -mod:ibfd -show_err

    start in: "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - IB"

Naturally, you'll have to change the names of the folders that you have differently named and replace them but what you have instead .
    It should work fine .

Hmm, I have now created an icon set to my equivalent of those directories. However, when I start the game it simply goes through the BI loading screen and then eventually opens onto the main menu of Rome Total War, the original. No sign of IBFD at all. Any ideas what I have done wrong?

    did u complete the install?
the installer will first extract files to a IBFD_TEMP folder in ur RTW dir
it will then copy the whole bi folder renaming it to ibfd
it will then copy all the files from IBFD_TEMP to the newly created ibfd folder
    it will then delete IBFD_TEMP

take note during the install there will be a DOS window that opens, let it run its course
complete install takes a few minutes

Is it possible for you to post up a Fraps pic of your hard drive so we can see the folders and their locations? To follow on from Ramon, the DOS window can run for a good few minutes at least and musn't be interrupted.

    A wise suggestion, SBH.

Hi, I have a (stupid) question: does IB overwrites vanilla or other mods?
