    Default Strange case of healing

The other day, I witnessed something happen which is very strange. There is a person I know, who has suffered for three years of the residual symptoms of an acute prostatitis. I am no Urologist, yet I know this is something which results often in LUTS (Lower Urinary Tract Syndrome) and a chronic flogosis of the Prostate, which is very difficult to resolve. Suddenly, the symptoms have dissolved. I had suggested garlic, quercetin and similar palliatives, as he came to me for suggestions, yet I doubted anything as such would be really efficacious, and infact they didn't work in two years. Then it happened. Personally, I would be prone to attribute this to the psychosomatic effect of certain psychodynamic processes in the subject in question, but on the other hand, it happened some days after a pranotherapy session.

    Opinions?

The clearing up of residual symtoms of acute prostatitis is not unheard of, and muscle relaxents are often used to treat it. Perhaps it cleared up on its own, or even the pranotherapy helped him to relax physcocolically.

Indeed, but a sudden clearing? As in, one day to another? After two years of actually constantly, slowly worsening symptoms regardless of antibiotic + chortisol + relaxants therapy and later recall cycles? I thought it was interesting, although as I said, I have stopped having contact with vast parts of my medical upbringing years ago, and it all gets foggy through time.

My personal opinion, is that it was a psychosomatosis ever since the beginning, yet that would be a bit extreme.

Well, you know the guy best. If you think his mind would be susceptible to that, its possible.

I'd chalk it up to spontaneous remission.

Probably...depression is very common among these patients, a significant number met criteria for depression. Was he taking medication for depression or anxiety? psychological evaluation is important, it plays a role in the comprehensive approach to these patients with Chronic Prostatitis. When the disease becomes chronic is less likely to undergo spontaneous remission.
    (I am no urologist)

I think he passed from a state of dysthymia with somatization, to a state of florid depression without. He may have become able to tolerate the full weight of his psychological condition, thus "dis-investing" the somatic aspect.
