Im ok with cameras
I don t care they are filming me in the streets, if it could avoid GF, or later daughters being raped, or son being hit badly, and the sacrifice is that i cannot have a piss on a tree, it's cool for me
I don't like the idea of Big Brother. However, I can see the use in having cameras in major cities. It would be useful for criminal trials.

Anyone who lives in Corona knows that all the cameras get shot out by paintball guns

Moved to Academy, pending the progress of the discussion....
In the UK, I for one feel like there are two many cameras, one on each coner and several inbetween, its unerving.

Jeez, we have like 3 closed-circuit cameras in my town. The city is too busy with keeping the streets clear of snow and well-lit to mess with cameras.

when they are aimed in such a way that they catch so much as a BLADE of grass in my yard. Freedom from being watched constantly starts at the property line, inward.
Really? So if I stand on the street and your naked in your front yard then I'm the one in the wrong for seeing you? Sorry buddy, but your right to privacy ends at your front door.

True. With a free press, free/fair/open elections, freedom of speech and an indepedent judiciary, camera surveillance cannot be abused. It is when government and the courts functions in the dark that you need to be concerned.

Ahh yes, the liberty known as not being watched while walking down the street.
Wait a second! There is no such liberty. There is also no liberty of not being seen in your property - unless of course you closed it off with a fence.
Sorry to say it, but putting cameras to watch the streets and sidewalks is perfectly acceptable. Assuming you also believe that having a police officer driving down the street is also acceptable. As long as the cameras aren't positioned so they can see inside a building, or into the private (and fenced off) property I see nothing wrong with them.
