How has Rome: Total War and it mods affected your knowing in history?

I remember when i first played RTW. It was one and a half year ago, and it was the demo. At that time i didnt know a thing about roman history, i just knew that Julius Cesar (actually Caesar, but i did'nt know it at the time) was a guy that had conquered gaul.
Than i played RTW full edition, i saw historicle things but yet, i had just learnt 5% of my today knowing in history (Medditirean). Than i found TWC, at first i just went to download section to find skins (most of them was created by KLA) But than i discovered the actual forum. I first played RTR, it gave me alot. But also other mods such as: EB, BBW, RM etc.
And guys, i learnt everything! So much facts in the game and in the previews. And when you look at a faction preview, you learn 90% more stuff that you didnt knew before.

But here comes the correct question:

How has Rome: Total War and it mods affected your knowing in history?

Well, it has'nt learned me anything, except if you count some posts on this forum...
but it has, however, made me more interested in that era...

Well, I was already quite well knowledged about the era, but mostly only focussed on the Hellenists and the Romans around Hannibal's time. RTW introduced me to nations like The Seleucid Empire, Dacia, Thrace and the Sarmatians, and the various mods have helped me learned more about them. In terms of knowledge gained about Greeks, Romans and Carthaginians, I didn't learn much, but it greatly enhanced my knowledge of the European and Mediterranean lands at that time.

I was like Xavier in terms of knowing about the Romans etc, but I was made more aware (mostly in the case of RTR and not the innacurate RTW vanilla version) of the Germans, Gauls, Iberians and other 'barbarian' factions.

I learned a whole lot about the factions militaries, but not much else.
However, it did get me interested enough to go out and learn more, and essentially, if something can get you to do that, it is/was successful.

RTW itself didn't teach me much, just piqued my interest in the time period. Playing mods like EB help my historical knowledge and encourage me to use Google a little more liberally to learn about certain subjects more.

I have learned much about the non-roman and carthagian states, like Parthia, Thrace, Dacia, the Gauls, Pontus, .... (but mostly due to the mods and their faction descriptions) and it started also my interest in the greek and hellenistic world.

i became interested after playing RTW and started researching military tactics to help me beat the ai (LOL?). i came across the macedonian phalanx, the greek hoplite phalanx, alexander the great, julius caesar, scipio africanus, gaius marius, philip II, tarjan, crassus etc

i now lecture my friends when they get some historical fact wrong.

The only history i learned from playing the game is geography, the factions and locations. Everything else i learned from discussions on this site. But i must admit, it was the game that motivated me to learn.

Well, I'm learning Latin and it helps uber much.

EX. Equu(sp?) is Latin for horse.
so Equites means something like Man of the Horse.
Wait no, Vir is man, no Vir is boy.....
Passing on to describe the way in which Napoleon employed ‘principles’ or ‘ingredients’ for the prosecution of War, it must from the outset be understood that his strategical and tactical systems followed no closely ruled pattern. Every operation was unique; no two were ever quite the same. However, the underlying every Campaign and battle were certain fundamental, which were applied according to circumstances.

If there was an option on the poll saying "It proves that game programmers have an urge to make games historically distorted" then i would have said that i had learnt that. It helped with a few ideas, eg i learnt where corinth is in greece, that there is a fantastic spear unit forming the back bone of the manipular roman army - but not portrayed in the right time/use etc.

Oh and trying to not be offensive, your grammar needs work.
