    Default Confused...

Just a warning, I am very much a 'noob' when it comes to mods for RTW.

I had been playing RTW for over 2 years now and never knew the existence of such amazing mods that have given me more reason and in some cases a much better experience in RTW than the original game itself.

I recently had a go at trying some mods out only to go through many uninstalls and re-installs because I had no clue what I was doing and my game just refused to work. Now that I have a better understanding (which was to copy my original RTW folder, paste it elsewhere and install mods in the second copy) I've finally installed RTRPE and have had it working probelm free (asides from one CTD during a battle... )

I've been doing more snooping for some other mods and found this Iberian Conflict. But through all the reading of these topics, I can't quite understand one thing, is this a seperate mod like RTR was or is this a campaign I install into RTR?

Also, is there a difference betwee RTR Platinum Edition and RTR 6? I also see posts referring to RTR VII, what is this exactly?

Thank you for such an amazing mod as RTR is, I look forward to trying TIC once I figure it out, and I look forward even more to RTR FoE!

TIC is a seperate mod based in Iberia.
It requires Barbarian Invasion to work.
It installs into its own folder and wont interfere with your original games (RTW or BI)

RTR VII is the current project being worked on by the RTR team. Rather than build a grand campaign in one go (takes ages), it was felt that small chunks (campaigns) would be released.
Although seperate entities, each campaign has features that will slot straight into the grand campaign such as units and building trees. (Always subject to revision though)

I'll leave someone else to answer the other bits

    Hope this helps

RTR 6 was released in 2005, using RTW on the 1.2 patch, which was then the latest update for the game. It went through a number of versions, reaching its final release as RTR 6.0 Gold.

RTR Platinum Edition was a conversion of 6.0 Gold for the RTW 1.5 patch, which came out after 6.0 Gold. Among many features of 1.5, the most important was the fixing of the save-reload bug, which meant factions no longer abandon their previous plans whenever the game was reloaded. For that alone, Platinum became the default choice of RTR 6. Platinum reached its final release as RTR PE 1.9, as its developers were called away to work on RTR VII.

RTR VII is the current in-progress version of RTR being worked on. After the RTR 7 team drifted away, MarcusCorneliusMarcellus got a new team together to begin work afresh. Since it had been some time since the last release of RTR, it was decided to give fans a taster of their work, and also to focus the developers on producing something they could see and play. Thus mini-campaigns, focusing on limited areas of the map, were produced. The Iberian Conflict was the first such, portraying the Carthaginian conquest of Iberia under Hamilcar and Hannibal. Fate of Empires is currently being previewed, which will look at the Second Punic War. There are overlaps between TIC and FOE, showing how the mini-campaign concept works.

RTR TIC is the first mini-campaign released for RTR VII, which is made for the RTW 1.6 patch (using BI.exe). It uses mod switch, meaning it installs to its own folder, and doesn't touch your vanilla installation. Most newer mods, including newer versions of RTR PE, also use mod switch, so as to allow multiple mods on the same PC. It is a standalone mod, that only requires the correct version of RTW to play.

Thank you for clearing that all up for me, I now fully understand and look forward to the future projects coming out.

I did have one final question regarding the mod switch. As I mentioned above, the mods didn't quite work for me because I installed everything into the vanilla (By the way, whose idea was it to call the original folder 'vanilla'?) RTW folder and never made separate copies as I should of had. My current RTRPE is in a separate folder, can I still apply the mod switch to it? I ask because there are other mods I'd like to try but I don't fancy the idea of making a dozen copies of RTW.

I think you need a clean vanilla folder, without having installed anything else over other than the RTW patches, for mod switch to work, so I guess if your original folder has changed, then you'll need to reinstall RTW. However, once you have that clean RTW install, you can install as many mod switch mods as you like, as they'll all work independently of each other and not interfere with each other.
