    Default School of hard knocks

This thread may already exsist but its hard to search for it.

Whats the toughest blow one of your electronics has taken? Just damage stories in general. The reason I bring it up is my brother just dropped my laptop (open and running) on the floor (carpet). It landed on its side too, but as far as I can tell nothing physicaly is broken inside or out.

I dropped it a long time back on concrete when a strap on my bag failed me and it got a nice dent on the corner but it still runs fine lol.

Dropped my Ipod at least a dozen times over the year or two I had it, it broke in half one day a peice came out. I taped it back together without the peice and it still ran for 6 months ^.^

My freind dropped his cell phone 3 stories once when it fell out of his pocket and over a balcony, the screen was a bit messed up but he continued to use it for several months before he bought a new one.

Anyone have good stories about damaged goods? Whats the toughest electronics product youve ever owned?

My Ipod survived a car running over it, but it died eventually about 6 months later.

I dropped my old phone (HP IPAQ 6365) on the ground countless times. It's scratched, marked but it works perfectly.

I once knocked the tray of DVD-drive with my knee whilst it was open, the tray came of it's runners but with a screw driver and 45 minutes work I managed to fix it.

i just spilled water on my laptop yesterday , after some quick reflexes to shout it down and 5 hours of drying it works fine now. i think i spilt a half gallon of water.

besides that i dont think i've had any appliance come back to me after a disaster, they all tend to die on me , perhaps i dont believe in them that much thats why they give up on me

I spilt half a bottle of mango and apple juice on my router and it still works. Kinda.

I've dropped my iPod on the hard ground many times, and though it's very scratched and battle-worn it works as well as it ever did.

The last thing that made me upset was when my bag broke and fell onto the floor, and my laptop with it. The wireless switch fell out and I had to take it to BestBuy to have them manually reactivate the wireless.

I jumped into a swimming pool, forgetting I had a walkie-talkie in my swim trunk pocket. That was the end of that walkie talkie. Went swimming with a watch that wasn't water-resistant, realized my blunder just after getting it, by which time it was too late.

My brother also killed my last mp3 player by getting into a pool forgetting it was in his pocket. Dunno what it is in my house with gadgets and swimming pools .

I didn't use the standoffs for my Mobo when I first built my computer, and it I turned it on before I realized my mistake. Amazingly, it worked after that.

I paid $1400 for a customized HP laptop from HP.com... got all the bells and whistles. I kept it with me when I drove truck over the road. So it was subjected to 11-14 hours a day of heavy vibration for over 2 years. The HD went out of it. Thank gawd I bought the extended warranty for it (I never buy those but in this case I had a feeling it would be a good Idea) HP rreplaced the HD and 1 month after my extended warranty lapsed, the motherboard went out.

Somehow my parts survived having a power supply fall on them. I really don't know how.

This wasn't physical, but last night I gave my card a small overclock. Somehow, it was artefacting when Windows was loading in the morning so after an hour of my magic, I managed to fix my card. This card sucks with overclocking now, I used to be able to push it so much without any problems...
