    Default Charging Horse Archers?!?

I've been playing the game for a couple years now and I've always wondered, is there a way for you to enable archers, horse archers, gunpowder units, charge while still carrying ammo? If not, I think that this would be a good thing for me to mod. Thanks!

Hold the ALT button while you right click on the enemy unit. they should then engage in melee.

didn't know that, that should really help thanks

Does anyone know what command stars do in the battle though? Does it make the computer more intelligent or give a combat bonus to troops or something?

It makes the engine steered general (AI), who commands the army, more capable to use the possiblities, that the combat/battle mode engine-wise offers.
So yes, you can say, the commander becomes more intelligent in battles. It'll have also an impact on autoresolve-battles, means, on your own general if he leads an army, if autocalculated or AI-steered in-battle if you would use that for your units.

Not to sound gamey, but once you've got some generals pushing 7 or 8 stars, you are nearly better off 'auto-calcing' than actually fighting. Once you start building up cheverons (experience) in your units, you usually inflict massive casualties whilst suffering minimal losses..

But using the auto solve system, you don't get the enjoyment out of the game. What would you say is better, you conquer each city one by one with horrific battles. Or...You click a button and wait for the jaw-dropping intense moment when it says..........Clear Defeat.....With odds in your favor 20:1 (its happened before)

I play in VH. So... in Autocombat you may end up losing many of your best troops that you wouldn't even get in combat.

And as Obliterate said, you see some extremely weird things with the Auto, like 1/10 or so losing a battle that would be impossible to lose.

well the odds are 1/10, so if you fight ten of those battles, logically you must lose one of them in auto mode
The Duke of Dunwich and surrounding fiefdom

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. It is in the Third Age AAR index and here is the link http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=376994

It's not a bad thing. There are many stunning victories throughout history which were against all the odds and no-one expected.
The only thing I think autosolve is a little dodgy on is storming a settlement because you lose very little. I autosolve on settlement battles I wouldn't fight myself because the losses would be too great if I played it myself. The computer doesn't seem to give a big enough advantage to those defending which is also why I always command myself when defending.
Autosolve I also find annoying on VH because you lose silly amount of troops. I want the extra challenge for myself but I don't want to fight every last little battle, but autosolve isn't worth it on VH.
