Teutonic Campaign
So i just installed Stainless Steel, and started a Teutonic campaign. I chose the Teutons, because they are my favorite "empire" from medieval times.
Now, i run into a problem. I only start out with 2 cities.. Okay... So i take over Hrodna, and started a war with Lithuania because, they are pagans. I could start a war with Poland, but I don't want to be excommunicated.
So now's my problem. It's unreasonably hard now, even on Easy. Right now my main goal is to build an army and take over Vilinius. There are tons of Lithuanians there, and so i have to build an army. But i only have 3 cities, building army's take upkeep, and I don't have the amount of money from Taxes/trade to support that. So I built a small army. Now i only have around 500-1500 florins every turn. So i have to make a small army, and attack a Lithuanian capital in my way, with tons of troops.
I tried many strategies, such as waiting till some leave the city. But if i do that, i assault, build the siege equipment, and the other army comes back. So then the odds are against me big time.
So yeah, any help would be appreciated. Also, i don't want to start war with Poland unless it's necessary.
Thanks.
P.S. I'm bad at combat in this game. I can do well when the odds are 1:1, though.

Re: Teutonic Campaign
It is extremely difficult to start as the Teutons, especially on this big map. I started playing SS right after 6.0 came out, I never did get my Teuton campaign off the ground. Although, I did pick up a neat background and learned a lot of history trying to get down to the strategy that would lead me to victory, I never did find it.
With battle skills a bit low, you most undoubtedly will need to improve those to get your campaign underway - I had a glitch back when I installed mine, and couldn't recruit higher tier units, I needed the patch (Another one besides 6.1, Make sure you fix this).
That aside, the strategy you need is to get your armies working, dead soldiers cost nothing, and crusading soldiers cost less. You must get the crusade to Vilnus (Or whatever the Lithuania capital is), and get your army in the crusades. Get 20 units in there with those pagans and you will have gotten farther than me.

Re: Teutonic Campaign
I have played a couple campaigns as the TO and i find that no matter what you do, poland will stab you in the back the first chance it gets. if you attack lithuania first you will soon find yourself in a multifront war with them, russia, and poland.
I find that if you take most of your starting army and take Thorn on the first couple turns, poland will prove to be much less of a threat. Thorn will provide you with some very nice units early on as well as a very powerful defensive front on your western borders.
Poland will usually accept a ceasefire after a couple succesful butt-stompings at the walls of Thorn. This will allow you to focus your efforts on the eastern side of your new empire.
So remember...poland is a sneaky, backstabbing, and potentially powerful pile of pooey. Take Thorn early and hold it. hope that this little advice helps.

Agreed with jo_dus. The Pope doesn't excommunicate so easily in 6.1, I find, so you can take Thorn and hold it. It doesn't take too many units to hold either.
It's like in Vanilla, even if you choose England as your first campaign, it's worth taking Hamburg as your front.

Re: Teutonic Campaign
Focus on taking the baltic region and ignore the eastern steps. The eastern steps are poor in resources, slow in growth, and a
to defend against the ranged cavalry.
However, wiping out lithuania in the first few turns shouldn't be that hard. You may be outnumbered but your troops are far superior in quality, not to mention AI will always be 'AI' and superior deployment/tactic will beat them.

Re: Teutonic Campaign
Thanks for the tips guys.
I forgot to check this forum today, but I ended up restarting the campaign, and taking Vilinius first. Then Hrodna was a piece of cake to take. Now Lithuania's gone, I'm gonna take Thorn.
Thanks guys.

Re: Teutonic Campaign
I started a TO camp. I set a personal goal not to get excommunicated or get in wars with other catholics for the begining. I though punishing poland early on would be unfair lol. All i had to do to deal with lith was to wait a while to get a some better units. It took two or three arse kicking victorys but i cleaned the floor with them in an acceptable amount of time.
