Recruiting Elephants

Well, I have the 6.4 version of SPQR. I recently took over Antiocheia from the Greeks because I was hoping to reduce the number of elephants I faced. However, they are still sending massive stacks with elephants galore (5 Units/Stack). I was wondering several things:

1. Where are the elephant resources? (What cities? - My map is not fully explored)

2. How do I (or can I) recruit elephant units myself? I tried under Antiocheia (which has an elephant resource) but the option is not available on the recruit queue, I have built all the improvements)

Elephants can only be recuited in the Mercenary options

indeed it is not possible for romans to recruit elephant only hire them as mercenary troops in africa and asia minor i think.

and your enemies can recruit ele's in the provinces that have a little elephant in it
that's an elephant resource

I almost never use elephants. Only sometimes when facing loads of Iberian rebel bull fighters against my pre-marius

hehehe you sneaky sulla. i actualy never use them. but i think i maybe will start a fun campaign as well. where i will recruit africans and elephants to fight greeks and greeks to fight gauls and gauls to fight egyptians and so on.
