IIRC then the Berserkers can still go berserk.
The berserker mode for Berserkers has been disabled for a while now. They now have extra hit points to compensate for it. Which makes it even more fun to enable the berserker mode.![]()
I remember that in BI the berserkers could wipe out an entire army if you unleashed them on the right moment. One onit could take out 500 soldiers easily. Bit overpowered ?![]()

I experimented with berserkers a while ago - I gave all barbarian units the ability to berserk and tweaked down the stats accordingly.
It was a rather savage experience and a most interesting thing to observe. But, as DimeBagHo already stated - balancing it is extremely hard.

Is it possible to lower their defense a lot as well as the number of men per unit and have a more balanced outcome?

Although it is possible to increase all troops' health to 3 so the berserkers don't kill too much. After all, zerks relied on quick kills!
