Default Would you support a new commonwealth?

Hello first time poster in this part of the forums. What would you think if the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Great Britain and Ireland (I intenionally left out India) recombined to form a new commonwealth? Discuss.

Edit: I just realized that this should be in the politcal academy. Many apologies.

Ireland would never willingly join, and the US wouldnt let them be forcefully annexed. US wouldnt join because we are too busy being arrogant. Other than that it wouldnt surprise me a whole ton, but it would only happen if a war between the US and another superpower occured that put most/all these nations under threat of destruction or something.

Canada/Australia/NZ are already in the Commonwealth along with 50 other nations amounting upto almost 1/3 of the worlds population between them.

Well if you find some aliens that invade us, or for us to invade then you just might see that.

As far as a common wealth I don't see how the US can fit. But we've already got very strong ties with those nations you've listed.

First of all, no. Second of all, why? For instance, why would Britain want to trade preferentially with Australia and New Zealand, countries on the other side of the planet, rather than with the rest of the EU? And vice versa - why would Australia and New Zealand want to emphasise relations with Ireland rather than APEC and ASEAN? Because we speak English and are most Anglo-celtic? Who cares?

How about Britain joins the European Commonwealth and leaves the rest of the world to get on with its merry business?

Because we've older ties with the Commonwealth countries than we have with Europe, we've more in common with most Commonwealth countries than we have with Europe.

Besides its a voluntary organisation, so no nation is forced to remain a part of it.

More in common? How so? You speak English? You play cricket? So what? So does Jamaica. The European Union is about economics and geopolitics and it's pretty bleeding obvious that Britain's interests in both respects largely coincide with those of other EU countries. Does Britain give a god damn about the civil war in Bougainville? Or a storm tide in New Guinea? Or Japanese fishing in the Southern Ocean? No. Do Australia or New Zealand care about North Sea fishing quotas, or smuggling through Eastern Europe? Same answer!

And your problem is ? Britains in the Commonwealth and the EU. They don't conflict.

And yes, I've more in common with an Aussie or a New Zealander and for that matter an American than I've got with a Pole or a Greek. Not very hard to understand.

Cheers to that. I ran into some Brits here at a bar, two Royal Marines and a couple of boys from 3 Para and we hit it off right away and drank all night with them and bar hopped with them and they were a blast. British are definitely the most fun people to drink with so far in Europe.

Jamaicans are a bunch of losers who drink moonshine and get high all day, living on the backs of the productive and chasing white tourist girls.

Jamaica was fun to visit, but to live there would be hell.
The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State. - James Madison

A global conglomerate "common wealth"? Sounds like communism to me.

im already disapointed with the commonwealth we already have today.
not only do we have to PAY obscene amounts for the royalty to visit, what exactly has the commonwealth done for us (australia and other countries of course) since 1900?
other than conscript our soldiers to be cannon fodder for the 'more important' english fodder.

nope. its just not gonna happen, leave alliances as alliances, for thats all they really are.
