    Default Sicily

I searched quickly but couldnt find an answer: How do you successfully play the first few turns of a campaign with Sicily? No matter what I do the economy immediantly tanks. Ive tried disbanding all but generals, blitzing the weak western border of Byzantine, everything.

Within the starting 10 turns, just take all possible available character units and a few that you can recruit to have a little garrison there, and then take Sicily (the two muslim governed settlements), the isle by all means. This should provide a health basis. With this just save money, means develop your economy before you enter more regions.
In my last testing (difficulty M/M), the Norman-Sicily AI was one of the main actors on the map ... don't blame yourself there are good options for Sicily.

Ok, so I attempted this, but it still didnt work. I must just suck.

That brings me to a couple questions. First is, I had a really good Pisa campaign going on my laptop, then got a new desktop, so I use this(desktop) now. Is there any way to transfer a savegame? Second(unrelated) question is I had to uninstall Chiv for a while, then reinstalled it, yet my saved game I had remained. Does that mean its still patched?

i can answer the first question: yes, you can transfer a savegame

what i do is just attach the savegame to a mail, sned it to myself and open it on the other Computer/Desktop.
this way you can transfer stuff very fast and easy.
putting it on a stick is also an option, but why do difficult when it can be done easier?

Perhaps you need to do a bit more micromanagement? Looking for the best options to save money etc.? Raise only an army if really needed, just disband units if it is necessary ... . Looking for characters governing the settlements with the best traits and ancs ... etc. and of course maybe start with M campaign difficulty?

in this mod i always get money trouble in the first turns, it's good i now know how i can keep England (but only a little bit) out of "red" because England gets in red too if you don't conquer fast (wich is something i like in this mod, it's not one faction steamrolling over the others, i even have that there is pretty much peace on the map...but when it's war (and if you dont seek it, it wont happen) there are full armies marching...just great

I highly recommend to play with the BI exe again!

The AI will seek you, and this by naval invasions.

In my last bugfix-testing, i'm Denmark (M/M). England some day will start to attack you by naval invasion, and nearly won't stop that to land armies on the continental Jutland. Meanwhile they will ally with the HRE, and then the big mess is there ... i lost the Jutland region after 20 or more first successful battles to HRE (the day came that you have not a chance anymore). Now they linger around in Jutland and on the isles, and attack my little army again and again, which still holds the little pin before they can reach my capital on the Sjaeland-isle

they do that with me too!! (in some way or another, some mods just ENCOURAGE the AI to make naval invasions, like in the fourth age total war rtw version, i see the haradrim load up tons of ships and attack me (reunited kingdom)!
when a faction has a natural enemy wich is oversea, they tend to make naval invasions waaaaay faster...

Luckely, in my England campaign, i had peace with Denmark before they overran my forts on the coast (YES, i place forts at the coasts)
now they are so busy with HRE, they dont think of me anymore...unfortunatly, the HRE DOES thinks of me....as an enemy ;D

ah well, then i'll do it like this.

and don't understand me wrong...the HRE sends stacks at me....it's just not so constant war-ish like, lets say, SPQR....alright, that's a little bit false, since SPQR is a VERY hard mod...

You mean very hard because of constant war and constant battles ... those are mods that i do not like that much. I'm glad when i have some breaks in Chivalry.

As for the AI behaviour once more: Believe me, the BI AI is still some tags better programmed compard to RTW. As for naval invasions, there is a file that shall steer it (sm_factions). In BI it works quite good, not perfect but acceptable, not so in RTW afaik.

Btw., i would enjoy it if you would keep the fun with Chiv for some time. We will need testers, who provide feedback before we make our next main release. Would you be happy if i send you a link to dl and playtest (and report about) a next version before it is published?

    micro-ing all the way lol

i do that always in the first 10-30 turns, after that i build the needfull: unit-pumping buildings and income-buildings, and when i get a message that a city becomes overcrowded i upgrade it, no more micromanaging of your empire is too large (but never autoresolve, it was ironic in vanilla, that i builded my Roman empire historricly and fought every battle myself, and when i had more or less the historical size, i didn't want to fight battles anymore and started to autoresolve....and THEN my empire crashed lol)

YAY I finally got a Sicily campaign off the ground. For some reason Siracuasa only had a general unit in it, and nothing else around, so I took it and slaughtered it. This gave me the $$$ boost to successfully get going.

Take a look in the 0.99 announcement thread, my response to your last comment.
Siracusa starts with a usual garrison. It can be that the AI has moved them out in the first turn and positioned these units somewhere on the isle ... but else :hmmm: ... as you can read in my post, there might be a wrong installation in your case.

Actually, even when I got the install right, they still do the same thing(move all units except the general out), except now they attack me if I come into their territory. And its only rebels who do it, so I dont know if that means anything. Regardless, in my finally correctedly installed campaign ive taken Sicily, Malta, and am about to invade Tunis, which is lightly gaurded because of a war on their western front.

from what i know of my fight against rebels (and since i am mostly playing hitoric-correct) is that they always attack me when i get into their territory (Scotland, Burundy, Ireland etc etc)

didn't they do that to you in 0.98? because they did with me....and tey amnushed me more then 20 times *sigh*

Yea, they attack me, except on Malta, for some reason the let me take the city then turned around and sieged me.

P.S. Are BI and RTW saves compatible with each other. I think I know the answer but...
