    Default foundry

im playing macedon and i made byzantium my capitol and ive developed it the most recuirting doryphoroi from other settlements to disband in byzantium over and over til i reached 24000. i wanted my units to have gold weapon and armor but what alarmed me is that byzantium cant build foundry. with hopes and dreams of gold units crushed i started looking for other settlements to make my gold units out of and i found that athens, sparta, pergamum, antioch and a couple others can make foundry. pella and byzantium cant for certain.

is there a list of which setlement can or cannot make foundrys? making gold units is extremely important to me personally, i know experience and morale of herakles temple is better but i like gold better

I don't think that there is a special list of cities that can build foundries. these are the regions that have iron resource.

There were some threads with people posting the cities they have found to be able to build such buildings, so a search might help.

Some other places that can build foundries are Ecbatana, Susa, one of the ptolemaic towns in southern Egypt, Arretium, Salona i think, Sarmizegetuza etc.

Easiest way is just to check if a province has the iron trade resource. Little grey rectangles on the map. If it has that a huge city there will be able to build a foundry. Closest one to Byzantium is Sarmitgetuza IIRC.

The whole weapon upgrade system is unrealistic anyway, as they would have to import iron just to create those units in the first place, and since weapon quality is already reflected in unit stats...

I've always wished there was a way to tell what resources are available to a city/province, either physically present, or traded.

Maybe someone could make a readme/spreadsheet?:hmmm:
If I have time I could collaborate with one of the more veteran XGMers like you or Scutarii.

No, I mean for the game to tell, so that certain units (e.g. ships) could only be recruited if, for example, wood is available.

You can use a 'resource' condition to test if something is locally available. There is no way to test if it's traded though. It would be nice if RTW had a faction wide test for the availability of resources.

I think that's going over RTW's head there. But it would definitely be nice....

For iron, its a matter of making a list. I think Sarmiszegathusa, Arretium, and Athens all have the resource. Unsure beyond that, but is there a text file that controls the resources that could tell you? Which one is it, because once I'm back on my RTW computer (the 27th) I would be willing to search around.

Descr_regions, search for iron, that should give you the list.
