Default Voyager 1 Photo from Saturn

    "Pale Blue Dot"

This is a photo of Earth from Saturn

That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

"The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

Freedom from religion is just as much a basic human right as freedom of it.

Insignificant? As far as we have looked outwards, and as much about the universe we have been able to gather, nothing so far has been as significant as the accomplishments here on Earth.

Significant in terms of intellectual accomplishment, perhaps. However, when contrasted against the giant stars, swirling galaxies and the simple vastness of the cosmos, our tall buildings--that will naturally crumble before the cosmos could ever take notice--simply aren't that impressive to me.
    1) The creation of the world is the most marvelous achievement imaginable.
    2) The merit of an achievement is the product of (a) its intrinsic quality, and (b) the ability of its creator.
    3) The greater the disability (or handicap) of the creator, the more impressive the achievement.
    4) The most formidable handicap for a creator would be non-existence.
    5) Therefore if we suppose that the universe is the product of an existent creator we can conceive a greater being — namely, one who created everything while not existing.
    6) Therefore, God does not exist.

Really, have you met a high enough proportion of alien races to determine that?

And in an ever expanding universe, how will you determine how many alien races there are?

I've highlighted the key phrases in the post for your benefit Roman Knight.
One thing is for certain: the more profoundly baffled you have been in your life, the more open your mind becomes to new ideas.

Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I really shouldn't post at two in the morning, as I always get it wrong.

If every speech was like that, there would be no battles, as all the soldiers would just walk away.
As a teenager, I was taken to various houses and flats above takeaways in the north of England, to be beaten, tortured and raped over 100 times. I was called a “white slag” and “white ****” as they beat me.
