Wow....and some questions

Wow - first battle against hannibal, and i got my ass handed to me on M/M. Battle wasn't even close. Leads me to a question, Velites to take on Elephants? Triarii, only good against cavalry? Principes and Hastati to take on Carthaginian Infantry, and my Cavalry, mass them?

Strategies, first turn, I am like at war with everybody, is this how it's supposed to be?

What to start with first? Builds? Strategies with my troops? Strategies against Gauls, Greeks, Carthage, who all attack me first turn. Help!!!!!!!

Lovely mod by the way, holy fricking challenging, and I only got to the second turn, lol. Thought I would enlist some aid.

hold on for a few days i am working on a guide on how tu survive the first turns.
i hope it will be finisht this sunday so check the forum again.

Well, I am at war with everyone. Is it supposed to be that way? I am sorry if there is an answer for that somewhere, but just curious. The Gauls, Carthaginians and Greeks all take settlements on me within the first couple of turns. Trying to decide if I should play defense to the North, and go after them in the South.

Making me think strategically, that's for sure. Using terrain to full effect, move my armies to where they come to me, and I take the high ground.

Figured out elephants are beatable with velites and triarii. My troops hold till I beat them and free them up. Use the cavalry to flank. But not enough troops. Thinking about giving up the North, then once I clear the South, turning my attention that way.

i too am struggling as rome.. new rtw player btw - vet m2player(heh got the series mixed around

been loving this mod from the moment i launched it, not only is rtw harder to me then m2 x10, this mod really proves a huge challenge for me as a tw player..

ive been playing on vh/h as rome, and within the firts few turns i knew i was in trouble..

well im on my 3rd try as rome now, my current stratgy atm is to abbandon genua, messana, reghion, destroying their barracks for money and regrouping units within the first few turns..

i build pallisades on the rest of settlements on first turn, jack all taxes up to high/very high, recruit as many troops as i can and amassing my army for defence on the north from guals, and attack on south on that damned hannibal

why bother working on trade off the bat, lets face it your in the hole for $$ no matter what within first few turns

now i dunno if its because im a horrible rtw player, but field battle are more intense and alot harder to win campared to any m2 ive played..

thats where i start to lose, i can only hold off the guals and fight the carthaginians for so long untill my units are complety depleted, once my reinforcements are gone and im in the hole for money im done for

i have a feeling im going to lose again, vibius julius and his standing army were suprised attack last turn by 4000 men, with the odds against me i stood my ground and won a heroic victory, i lost just over 1000 men, but guals have another full stack sieging arminium, where my full roster consist largly of milita..

without another heroic victory, im afraid im going to lose my army then the north..

flavius and quintus defeated one of hannibals armies and now siege taras, but last time i fought hannible with my 2 standing armies his elephants annihilated my infantry so i know im up for another crazy fight..

even if i win these huge battles coming up, what then? its only a matter of time before more enemy reinforcements come, or the greeks etc..

when do the romans get a break? i need some help lol great mod btw

SPQR is meant to be played on M/M settings, otherwise you have no chance.. I've tried

ive fended off the hordes and have somewhat found a time ofpeace.. im starting to make some money, and able to retrain/recruit my troops and started to build my first stable

things are looking up, i seem to be gaining slightly more money each turn now that i have my cities goverened

Guy listen the mod cant be won with serious cheats on VH. I made the mod I should know. Please READ the README next time and if you want a REAL challenge check out the houserules.

i diddnt realize the game was meant to be played on m/m.. ive always played on vh/vh with any tw game - guess i should of read house rules..

does that mean i should start over for the game to play correctly on m/m, or is it just going to be extremly hard to continue??

im starting to do good on vh/h without cheats.. im making money now its 211 bc, ive warded off immedite threats to my homeland and starting to build my econmy while keepng my units replenished

i really dont want to start over after all that hard fighting

i'm not using this mod (rs betatester) but i think you should build up italy while holding the gauls out of the north and when you're ready(economicly) start to push true

just a question.
do the other factions expand at all? because when i played before i switched back to rs when selucids and macedon went to war with each other they didnt do anything

No only certain factions expand. this allows the player to FIGHT other factions that usually never exist without the superfaction fix. Its an improvement really as who wants to fight Greeks forever. Trust me you DONT need to have Superfactions to make the game harder.
