Default Troops Crushed by Falling Timber?!?!

Ok so I am playing as the Greek Cities and defending Heracleia from stack after stack of Galatians (might fun I must say) and they are completely isolated. So I was defending one time when the Galatians had I believe 5 rams. So obviously, 4 of their rams go for the walls themselves. Now, right now Heracleia still has a wooden wall, and when the ram knocked the wall down I had troops stationed right behind the wall where the wood fell. Well I never really noticed anything unusual, but I had a general protecting one wall (since Greek generals are infantry) and when the wood fell, it killed my general!!! I also noticed that for the troops standing near walls that were knocked down their numbers seemed to decrease.

My question is, does falling timber from the walls actually kill troops behind it or was it possibly something else that I wasn't paying attention to?

I've never experienced or heard of (until now) falling walls killing troops. Unless of course your walls are undermined while you are standing on them. But that's not what you are describing. More than likely your General fell to enemy fire.

Using normal walls, large stone walls or bigger will fall on anyone standing behind them. When playing vanilla, one of my favourite tactics was to damage the wall just enough to get a defending unit to go and defend the breach. Then I'd complete the demolition of the wall, and by the time the dust cleared, said unit will have been flattened by the falling masonry.

I did not notice any missile troops was the odd thing, and he died immediately as the walls fell, as did about 10 other men in his unit (went from about 39 men in his unit to 28 or so) as did a couple of other units along the walls who lost about 5 men each.

I didn't know that, and even if I did I doubt I would employ such an underhand tactic

The falling wall damage was instated in the BI expansion and has been around since.

The worst is when you are on a map with water and i have had some triarii charging at some men that can swim. My trairii kept going into the water even though i commanded them to move and the kept drowning themselves. I think if i was gunna commit suicide walking into water wearing armor wouldnt be one of my first choices!

I had a battle in the original, unpatched version of RTW where I was the Bruttii faction going against the Egyptians across a river. Their captain, who was in a foot unit, rushed across the river without using the bridge and killed his best unit and general by suicide.

I've never seen this happen, but I like that it does.

Never happened again with any of my games. I only did one or two crafty things against the Egyptians in that campaign like partially collapsing the wall they were attacking with elite units and I defended with what I had, which were a much lower quality.

Still can't beat these 2 events:

    1) When the battle starts, you use Ballistas / Scorpions to kill some Elephants at the beginning and watch them rampage through their freshly formed battle lines.

    2) The first volley from your Scorpions is a long ranged shot that kills the enemy general.

I have seen it before in Vanilla. The wooden wall collapses on the units just right behind it and kills them all instantly.

However, I am not sure if it is same for stone walls..:hmmm:

It works with stone walls as well.
As for the artillery, I charged some onagers across a bridge and one flaming rock smacks right into my general, killing him instantly.
    1 more to the artillery.

In RTR (without BI), I was sallying forth from Scodra against the Macedonians. I managed to surround some of their units, except for on one side where they were bordered by the river. They routed and ran straight into the river, committing suicide!
BTW, in vanilla (not BI) some of my units were crushed by both wooden and stone walls.
