If tyrannical goals are repackaged in an attractive and deceptive package and imposed on nations again, the people, awakened, will stand up against them.”

The US is becoming known for stupid wars.
The War on Drugs. Who declares war on a chemical? And who the hell loses?
The War on Terror/Terrorism. Yeah, wars on nouns and adjectives always work.

Serious discussion in TWC? Surely, such a travesty will never plague these forums.

I was serious. I meant to write a part that was really serious, though, but had to go. Now I will.

It is stupid though. Drugs have been like this for years and years. No matter what we do, they will devise new ways to bypass the security and get drugs into the system. They would be better off having really sentences, like a year or two for a drug-related crime, 6 months for just doing drugs, and life for selling it. Or mahbe like 20 years or whatever. It is also a bad name, crackdown on drugs would be better.

So many innocent victims of the war. So much money that could have been used to HELP addicts, wasted on a war that can't be won.

I guess conservatives are right when they say government is the cause of a lot of problems. Too bad when it comes to drugs, democrats and republicans agree that government is the solution. Really their are two ways to have a "successful" war on drugs. You can give automatic death sentences to all those selling and using the drugs. Or you can legalize them and put very heavy taxes on them. The problem with the taxes solution that it does promote stealing and other crimes to feed the addiction.

Anyways, this war is being fought the wrong way. In order to even make a dent in the dealer's profits you have to catch 75% of the drugs. Our "War on Drugs" gets 10-15% of heroin and 30% of cocaine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_...e_War_on_Drugs.
Whatever we are doing, it seems to not be working at all.

Thats where i am torn on. I am cool with legalizing all but the most lethal ones. But what off the addicts, wouldn't legalizing them make more addicts, and all the harmful health effects that come with it. Whos responsibility is to take care of all these addicts? And is it morally right to legalize something that we know for sure is harmful to ones health, with no positive benefits.

In my own point of view (varies from time to time), hard drugs should be prescribed and only leased to addicts. A.K.A "Medicalized".

Another, more funny way of perhaps solving the problem, would be putting the age limit of cocaine and heroin purchase to 70 years old or so. Once your that old I think trying hard drugs doesn't really matter . And if they die, good for us, less money to pay for pensions .

I don't support the war on drugs because it isn't a war. It should be an ethics campaign run by a large, non-tax-supported group that runs from their, and only their, perceived evil of the drugs. It hsould be just like the anti-smoking groups. Do it if you want, but a group will keep hounding you to quit, even though you have no legal obligation to comply at all(in fact, flipping them the bird would be a great reaction)

War on Terror shouldn't be a political phrase that is a get-out-of-jail-free card for the president to use whenever he wants to make certain unpopular policy. It should be the support of all the currrent protective agencies we have, working closer together to combat crime that have national interest.
