    Default Roman reforms question

Hello, I just installed Rome and this mod for the second time bc I wanted to see what 1.2 had to give... Simply put... Its amazing, best mod I've ever played, counting med2 SS and the lusted mods... this simply puts everything under the map...

I have a quick question, playing Romani, I got my reform a while ago and I didn't see any change on my recruitable units until I built a barrack (Like, in Roma, I had a lvl 4 barrack, I had to upgrade to lvl 5 to see the Polybian reform units... All my cities except roma and another one have camillan still)

Will this happen on all the following reforms? If yes, is there any way to quick fix this? Because I don't want to raze my lvl5 barracks on Roma :S waste of money AND time.... well... I guess I could use add_money and process_cq if nothing else can be done :S...

THANK YOU AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING MOD

    You have to raze it.

But hey, you get like 5000 bucks back!

argh, that's what I feared... i'll just race, add_money and process_cq to the same barrack lvl... i dont like the idea of building from 0 just bc new reforms happened... its not like they had to destroy all their barracks just bc they reformed

For the first Roman reform, you have to upgrade your MICs (barracks). If they are at the highest level, you can upgrade them to the highest level reform MIC without tearing it down.

When the second Roman reform occurs, the script will place new reformed MICs in your towns that are the same level as your old ones. At this point, you can tear down your old MICs because they are now useless and will be damaged 100% by the script every turn.

thank you very much for the info

I ended up tearing all down and add_money/process_cq to the same lvl barracks

Since his question's answered, anyone mind answering a Roman reforms historical question for me?

I was wondering, why did the Romans switch their Priciples' (sp?) weapons to the shortsword instead of the spear for their first reforms? That leaves them with only Triarii (sp again?) for spears, which I was under the impression only actually fought in very pitched battles.

Not sure about the camillian principes VS polybian principes, I suppose it has something to do with "middle ground" evolution towards the legion style. I can only imagine, but when the battle lines closed getting a spear into a guys ribs might be more difficult than a gladius, I heard they would take the blade and jab up under the ribs. I'm sure over hundreds of years they knew what they were doing.

Remember that it is a video game and that historically soldiers could have more than two weapons as an option. Then, not all soldiers in every different army would be equiped the same. They could also change their weapons based on what they face and where they are.

The polybian reform represents the romans adopting new weapons and tactics from fighting the celts and carthaginians.

to save starting another new thread about the reforms dose any one know how to get siege engines as Rome?
as greeks and carthage you just get them from building up your baracs alot, but as Rome i can't find any way of acquiring them

I think you have to wait until you get the Marian reforms.

IIRC you can recruit siege engines in several Greek towns (Syracuse, for one) during the Polybian era already.

You have to wait until the Marian Era to build seige equipment as the Romani. You should be able to build them in a couple Greek towns such as Syrakousai. They used to be in the wrong MIC, but I think that was fixed. You can also try bribing enemy siege equipment as the Romans often did historically.

I've build a lvl 5 region MIC in Syracuse and no seige engines.

How do you get the consul trait in a family member?

It's pretty random. I think influence > 4 is neccessary though.

It's also the last step in the cursus honorum, but that's obvious.

just place the units you want in export_descr_building /data, at lines where polybian units are located note: make always backup of everything you moddify.
