    Default Multiplayer Functionality?

    Just a general question for other members; does SPQR work online?

    I am with the Forumites group, and we are considering Mods for our interactive Multiplayer Campaign. I played this one back when v.5 came out, and loved it, but I never played it online.

    Now I have brought it up as a possible mod to do our campaign in and several of our group seem interested. I was wondering if any of you have any experience playing it in MP, and if it works, is it stable there?

    I plan to download the latest version and test it out once finals are over this week, but if it does not work/is unstable, it would save me a little time.

    normally it doesn't work online, or is to be trusted online
    very sorry to say this man

    but some people have posted that it works with them, as long as you have the COMPLETELY SAME VERSION

    and with your experience on MP games, it should work

    Thanks for the heads up Valerius Tiberius. It looks like V.7 was just released a month ago. None of my other forum mates play it so far, so we would all be on the same version.

    I will probably encourage them to download it, and we can run some online tests to see how it shakes out. I will probably post something in here if it goes well, or runs into problems.

    Has anyone here tried the MP with V.7 by any chance? Could you elaborate on any specific issues people have encountered with previous versions? Depending on what they are, they might be fixable...

    it has not been tried and it probebly will not work ether.

    Any particular reason you say that?

    If there are specific issues that you know of, I may be able to resolve them, or maybe not...

    Do you know of anyone who claims to have successfully hosted MP with a previous version, or of a previous version that was rumored to work?

    I had a little trouble logging onto GS after I installed it today, but was able to host a game once it stopped fussing. Nobody available to join yet, but I am anxious to see if a stable game can be connected once some of my friends load it up.

    becous there where some threads about it and i heard it works on lan, but i also heard there where problems.

    i am some one who wants to see prove if people say that this works but i have never seen any prove of a lan ore multieplayer battle.

    I know it works in LAN, but since the Patches from CA I am not sure on online, for one thing the game has to be absolutely the same on both sides and I noticed alot who tried cannot say for certain they had the same. Any little changes can cause issues.

    I know SPQR played fine online back with patch 1.2 after that I dont know. What I WOULD suggest is having 2 pcs right next to eachother with FRESH INSTALLS and not RTW folder left over from other mods etc. Then install the game and SPQR and then connect ot the internet online to play if it works then it should work for your friends. the problem is if you dont KNOW if the other computer is the same it wont work. You have to have the same.

    Well then, you should have proof one way or the other pretty soon.

    Prefect and Jammin both sound like they are getting a fresh install done, and SPQR V.7 loaded, so we will probably try to run a test or two in the next week or two.

    Since we would all be running clean copies of the same version, with any luck, data variance would not be an issue. GameSpy and any internal issues this mod creates with CA's code in MP (which really can't be predicted if you don't design and test specifically for MP use I don't think.) are the only real concerns I have.

    Given that this is a Single Player mod, I have some of the same doubts as you, but I will keep a little optimism. I would be quite impressed if it still functions correctly given all the work you have done on it.

    Thanks for the replies Lt1956 and Hesus. I'll let you know how the tests run. And thanks for the mod Lt. It's the only reason I kept playing SP instead of shelving RTW over 4 years ago. Real outstanding work regardless of how this goes.

    I played a LAN game with my brother with SPQR a year ago, but then next time we tried it didn't work. I also tried to play online with Jegui and that definitely didn't work.

    I'd love to be kept up to date with this, sicne me and my friends are interested in playing online with SPQR, but have been stuck with RTW until now..

    Does LAN work for the versions that aren't exactly the same?

    IE If I have 6.4, and my friends have 7.0, will LAN still work?

    no lan will not work becous you need exact the same version. and lan dosn' t work every all the time.

    try using the search function to find some topics about it, someone made it work

    but, as Garnier already mentioned, it seems to work sometimes, and not work other times, without any apparent reason :S

    Well, so far it seems not to work.

    Both Prefect and I have fresh installs of Rome with 1.5 Patch and SPQR V.7 installed. No BI on either of our games. Everything should be fine there.

    In GS, it registers as "Not Compatible Game Data" and if you try to join, it generates the following error report:

    When I hosted and PM tried to join, the same thing happened, only the last line [Your mod: No mod (ck : D4E4E939 : E4056DDE)] the second half ": E4056DDE" was different for him. Like "554067EF" or something.

    I will look around to see if anyone knows if this is fixable, but I doubt it.

    So there is your answer.

    lolz i doubt that because i'm a very good mp RTW player so i think i would be able to kick your ass in a mp battle of SPQR TW.(but i guess we'll never know)

    i believe you can' t download 6.4 any more. so it will be a problem for them to try.
