Some of you may think this is a "Flame-Bait" but it isn't. I actually think this is quite an interesting an legitimate topic.
I don't know anyone, outside of the internet, who plays Total War games. I live in London, not Kabul in case any of you are wondering so people here do play video games. I'm not even sure I know anyone who's even heard of Total War.
I come on to these forums and all I see are intellectual users, intelligent people. On these forums there's not an "average" person in sight.
So that lead me to the belief, that maybe only intelligent people play Total War games. Let's face it, the average person doesn't know anything about Alp Arslan, Hannibal, Richard I, etc. The average person would have barely known of Julius Cesar.
Hmmm, I can't see to much difference between the two in some parts of London these days.
But I do believe that some aspects of it such as events, nations, and historical figures do help people learn more about history. I just know that I picked up Rome: Total War (my first in the series) because I loved Rome and history as well as massive battles. But there are some people I went to school with who didn't even believe things from the game yet still played it. There was this one guy in particular. 17 years old and he didn't think Carthage had ever really existed. In fact most people also believe things like the R:TW vanilla were Egypt was still land of the Pharaohs despite the fact that General Ptolemy, Alexander's general and ancestor to Cleopatra was Greek and that at the time of Rome's rise Egypt was more or less a Greek nation. Many also believe that Greece was a single nation.
I could be concidered average the intelligence of some of the posters here intimidates me, and sometimes I'm too scared I'll sound like an idiot to post in the ethos or in the mudpit or vestigia.
I read with a lot of interest tough, and ocasionally I do post but it often doesn't contribute verry much I think.
and I'm addicted to to total war games.
I think it's about being interested in history people who don't care about history won't pick up a total war game verry fast, unless a recent movie sparked interest in the time period.
Then there's the crowd who just doesn't fancy strategy games,
False.
They would just suck at it.
To an extent, yes.
Most people today seem to like simple easy games with not much of a learning curve at all. You can't just pick up a TW game with no prior strategic experience and expect the person to be a natural at it, unless he's one of those rare geniuses.
I mean, hell, when I first got R:TW, I got my butt handed to me, so I went and read Machiavelli's The Prince and his Art of War, and then came back and continued playing the game.
i actually play it for the campaign to be honest, though MP battles can be fun, also Thanatos, i think by saying dumb people dont play this your conflicting with your other thread that lists all the idiotic thoughts and what not![]()
I know some people who play TW games, and they all are intelligent, seriously.
