Default If only Mr Hussein was still the leader of Iraq!

If only the Americans could have just left Iraq alone and let Saddam run Iraq himself the way he wanted. Saddam Hussein was a war criminal, it's true, but he ran Iraq better than anyone else could have. Now that the Americans have invaded the Arab militants have seized the opportunity and have virtually overrun the country.

Saddam ran Iraq with an "Iron Hand" and that's the way Iraq should be run. If only he was still the leader of Iraq. I know some people hate him and call him evil, but I still respect him as a great leader.

Why? So he would let you can invade Kurdistan and terrorise the Kurds as often as you would like?

Well that would be one of the benefits. We wouldn't terrorize the Kurds, we'd just carry on occupying their "lands". And besides, the Kurds are bad losers. They expect us to give them 1/4, possibly more of our country to them for free. Well if they want it they're going to have to fight for it fairly in a military war, rather than sending in suicide bombers to pointlessly kill civilians.

No, they are going to take it because they will be so many that you will be forced to either watch Turkey slip into chaos or give them their lands back.

    In your dreams.

I can't wait until I finally join the Turkish army. Hopefully I get assigned into "Kurdish Regions".

Just be careful. Once they capture you and free you after putting you on TV, people will call you a coward. Also, be careful when entering Iraq. The Americans might get you and put a bag over your head. It wouldn't look glorious enough for the mightiest of the mighties, the turkish army.

What, are you going to build them universities and libraries? Help them build up the economy and leave if they don't want you there?

I would like to know what the minimum age is for the Turkish army. Obviously this individual having lived for at least 17 years to our knowledge can join the Turkish military... or was the quote above a lie Kemalraik?

Yes, I am old enough to join the army right now. But you only have to join after you finish your education. I am currently at University, I will join once I finish my masters, or I might move onto do a PHD depending. But nonetheless I can't wait!

use edit, instead of double posting in future.

There are plenty of countries that have brutal dictators, but we have not toppled these regimes. And it would be likely be a bad idea to do so. America should learn a lesson, and not intervene in other countries again, no matter how bad the dictator, unless they did something to harm us. It is not a wise course of action, and will end up with countless American lives and dollars wasted.
Exactly, Saddam was by no means a nice person at all. But there is no doubt the country was FAR more stable under his rule. The iron hand is the way to rule in a land filled with militants. Hey, it's not as if George Bush is any nicer a person, but he's doing an awful job.

Thank god Saddam was such a fair fighter. Those chemical weapons sure were nice of him to use.

Well what did you expect him to do?

Go up to the Kurdish leader and ask him for a fair boxing match?

Saddam: "We'll box each other in a ring on the neutral ground of Syria. If I win I get to keep Northern Iraq and you and your people can migrate to Iran and cause trouble over there instead. But if you win, then I'll hand over Northern Iraq."

    No!

I disagree. Sure, Iraq was more stable under Hussein than it is now.
But Saddam was by no means a good leader or ruler. He was self-serving power-hungry tyrant. That's the only reason it was stable: cruel and merciless repression.

It'd be better to reinstate a system of responsible parliamentary monarchy with the Hashemites. I mean, look at Jordan; they have prospered under that dynasty. Iraq sort of was, for a time, until Faisal's Hashemite cadet branch was overthrown in a coup. Not a revolution or even a real military revolt...a goddamn officer coup d'etat. The vector by which Saddam Hussein hijacked the country in the first place.
