    Default Milan oddness

So i was just fighting a campaign battle with Milan as Spain. I had mostly crossbowmen and a few spearmen and some heavy cav so i deployed up a hill so I could destroy Milan with my crossbowmen and charge my cav downhill into them when they reached melee. But then this happened.

For some reason instead of coming after me Milan fell back right to the opposite corner of where my crossbows were:

I sped up time and waited on my hill for Milan to come, but they didn't

And time ran out i won with 141 kills and 0 deaths from a Italian spear millita which was shredded by my crossbows which was the initial army of the battle, the rest of milan's army is reinforcements and since Milan sallied forth and lost their entire army as destroyed. Weird. Ive never seen this happen before maybe the ai just as trying to stay out of range and knew that assaulting my hill would get them killed so they tried to wait me out.

Be happy, you took a city with no fight odd, but the ai at least tried to live, even though it meant they die on the campaign map.

I've had this happen to me quite often (in fact once last night). Usually I spring them by moving my army forwards to about the halfway point, then sending some cav to lure them to me.

I don't play with a time limit, so I always have to finish them off, even if they refuse to attack.

CA really needs to boost their AI. Maybe they could just contract it out to some of use here at TWcenter... we obviously know better than they do. And then we could buy that shiny new server.

If you were the Milanese general would you frontal charge a massive force of crossbowmen with your weakly armoured millitia? I think the AI acted pretty well to the situation.

I'm assuming he was the defender in the battle (as this has happened to me in the same situation) thus the AI should attack or withdraw, not just sit there. They're the attackers, it's up to them to make a move.

The reason a Castle wouldn't have had appeared on the mini map is, I assume, because it was relieved by another army (the 141 that were initially slaughtered) and the garrison had to march out and become reinforcements for the battle.

There are lots of little bugs, even this long after launch. Sometimes the AI triggers, sometimes it doesn't. At least, like people said, you got a settlement without losses, but, then again, maybe you wanted the battle. It is one of the main reasons people play TW after all.

oh no i didn't mind I was at war with France as well and was trying to shut Milan up since they kept attackign my weakly garrisoned city as France was still quite powerful at the time i needed alot of troops.

yes they sallied as I was siegeing them so technically I was the defender.
