CTD\Black screen

This is weird. When I first started playing this mod, during battles it would go to a black screen for about a minute, then load back to the battle. It happened about once every 5 minutes. Really annoying. I stopped playing. I came back to it a month or so later. No more black screen. Instead, it would crash after several hours of playing. Oh well, it almost always when i was about to go off, and i dont mind refighting a battle or two.


then i read that it being installed into program files on vista caused ctds. i moved it out. then, i have ctds still(well i dont know about ctds yet realkly, only crashed when it went to black screen during loading or a battle), and the black screen. what do you think the problem is?

That sounds like a hardware/software problem. Try updating all of your driver software like you video drivers.

Laptop, so thats wayh too pricy. but besides, it runs fine at about 2000 men on the field, other factions turns arent really that long, the campaign map runs fine. but when i click the eb single player shortcut, it says it cannot locate the...well i forget, im at school right now. but then it works perfectly after. ill edit for what it says later.

That's a weird message. That file is just the picture used for the desktop icon.

And by hardware drivers, I mean the software that runs a given piece of hardware. The manufacturer of hardware will provide that software on their websites and sometimes updates it if changes are needed. Getting the most current version of that software may fix random problems.

However, since you said you got an error message, it probably isn't your drivers. You may have a corrupt install. :hmmm:

oh ya, good point. didnt think of that for some reason. ill just go reinstall it.

When I overclock my video card passed lets say 700Mhz I sometimes get black screen freezes / crashes. Earlier today, after about 5 hours of playing had a black screen freeze, soon after it unfroze and I could see a huge double snake emblem way in the distance, and then I looked the other way and I could see giant parts of people - like it looks in the tga's. I started moving around the field and I saw some of my principes, and they looked freaking awesome like spectres or something, could only see this cool outline. Needless to say I quickly turned my computer off before it started smoking.

Have tried two campaigns with EB1.2, one with Parthia and one with Rome. Have the same problem with Rome (I believe), screen goes black and the loading icon appears all the time during battles, sometimes the screen goes black and it just reloads and reloads without returning to the battle. Makes fighting my own battles hopeless. The Parthia camp works just fine.

Never experienced this problem with my old PC and EB 1.1, is the game supposed to ''load'' all the time is this perhaps a 1.2 related problem or vista related? My current PC is about 4 times faster(i) than my latter on which EB ran fine, can't figure out whats the problem and have already read through the (1.2 fixes thread).

(i)2800x3 ghz, 4 gb ram, 512mb videocard, but fing Vista, EB should run fine?

ED I believe it says that the screen driver has been restarted after an error when I turn EB off, doe not say serious error though? My screencard is a new NVIDIAsomething 512mb.

Generally I am experiencing much more CTDs with 1.2 than with 1.1 (probably about 4 times as many with campmap and 10 times as many with battles), whether this is related to a new PC, Vista, 1.2 or the fact that I ran EB through BI before is the real issue here. Id like to know if anyone can explain this to me so I will know whether to turn back to EB 1.1????

Try disabling your video card acceleration, just to rule out the card. Was in Properties/Settings/Troubleshooting for XP, The fact you are using Vista shouldn't really matter from what i've read.
