The next world Superpower

Couldnt find a thread about this, looked through 10 pages.



Anyway, this is my favourite thread of all time. I saw it on one forum, and started it on 3 others as well. It is just so fun. I wonder what all you geniuses here will make of it...(most intelligent online communtiy ive ever seen, even allowing all internet sounds intelligent(well some))


We know the US is breaking down. National debt, bad foreign policy, bad leadership, now a huge financial crisis...It cant be much longer. What will it do in its dying cries? And who will take its place?

So, whos next? China, populated and semi-advanced. Japan, crowded and brand new? India...crowded. Russia...maybe a resurgence? The EU(there is a thread about that)? Israel, strong and well trained.


Any country you think has the capacity to become the worlds next superpower, how and why. Ill post my views in a bit.

The US isn't breaking down. What the hell? Dying cries? Uhm no. We're still leaps and bounds ahead of the countries you listed. Granted Russia could have a resurgence sometime (doubtful in the near future) and someday China might be on the list. But the rest of thosse are ridiculous. India? Yeah right. Israel? They don't have a population to be a super power. Japan? Mmm no. The EU isn't even a completely unified organization so that's not going to happen either.

I don't where you get the idea that the US is sinking... but you're way off base.

I agree with everything above, America is still in a strong position and, although threats will obviously come from China Russia and possibly even the E.U (god forbid ) 'America will not fall'.. yet

All powers rise and fall its just when i think another rises and another falls a conflict will ensue and cost many lives i think our generation are living through the good days say 20-30 years time it will be hell..


I dont think Britain will ever come as a super power again, maybe if it joins with the E.U. so utterly it will regain partial control over what it ruled once independantly but i think personally that Britains true interest is within its commonwealth rather than that of European or American interest..

You might want to establish how and why you believe the USA is falling from superpower status. Many of us will not simply accept your word that it is so.

Rather than assume the fall of the USA, why not suppose that others will rise up to create a multipolar world. It does not need to be USA loses and some nation wins. All of the major powers could indeed compete politically, militarily, etc. on equal terms with the USA. Present what conditions would make this so.

Short answer -- establish more ground and let others bounce off your ideas. Also -- there is a bit of literature on this, post some that interest you the most but be sure to add your comments as a part of the posting.

I think that the power of the US compared to other powers will decline a little bit so they will stop being the superpower but I sooner see a world with multiple superpowers roughly balanced in influence and power (USA, China, Europe) and secondaire powers who won't actually be that far behind (Brasil, India, Japan, Russia)

That is off cours still a wild guess, all of those powers have issues that they should deal with in the future.

Europe, have to find a balance between national issues and european issues
US, have serious economic issues to be dealt with
China, will probapley get troubles in the future with their population demanding more freedom
Russia, India and Brasil have a lot of troubles due to great difference between the poor and the rich
Japan, don't really now but I guess the lack of land and natural resources is challenge enough

Yeah there's a difference between realistically hypothesizing a possible country rising to compete directly with the United States and then some silly fictional account of the US crashing and another country becoming the one and only super power.

Ummm no, I think we can handle that ourselves. And that was kind of offensive. We didn't go about telling you guys what to do after 7/11. India is a sovereign nation quite capable of defending its sovereignity.
