Default How do I install Stainless Steel so that it doesn't tamper with Vanilla MTW2 &/OR Kingdoms?

    Hi all,

I really did enjoy playing this mod BUT it tampered with my Vanilla MTW2 & Kingdoms both.

It disabled my "Flash units" circular button which REALLY sucked.

How can I install this mod so that this mishap never happens again?

I believe you can't. Take it or not.

Copy your program files/sega/medieval 2 total war and renamed the copy to SSm2tw or something. That way you will still have your original untouched.

erm, it already installs into its own mod folder...

It does install to its own folder but it does modify some m2tw vanilla files.

    Hi all,

When I had first bought and installed MTW2 and after some time, of course, installed S.S. 6.0 & then 6.1 into my Crograms\Sega\Medieval Total War 2 folder, I found that YES S.S. does install into its' own subfolder BUT it disabled the "Flash units" circular button in Vanilla MTW2 AND in the 4 Kingdoms campaigns as well!

Have you checked out how Vanilla Kingdoms is running for you?
Stainless Steel tampered with my version indeed.

I'm looking for a workaround for this, as battling with many units without the ability to distinguish between them from an aerial view is ridiculous.

The flash units circular works for me in SS. Could it have been a submod you were using?

    Hi Wildassman,

NO, none of the sub-mods I used tampered with the "Flash units" button in Stainless Steel.

To prove it to you here is a list of sub-mods I've used:
    -Crimson tide
    -Realistic Archers & Javelins
    -Blood, Broads and Bastards
    -Real night battles
    -Real blood
    -Burning men effect
    -Improved Torch Flame

Stainless Steel screwed with my "Flash Units" button from the beginning and I screwed with my Vanilla Kindoms campaigns "Flash Units" buttons as well.

    I'm done with this thread.

Any Future posters take note: HELP ONLY, NO QUESTIONS.
    Thank You,

Perhaps hellas1 would like to know how to reenable his 'flash units button'.

hellas1 - I have a "clean" 6.1 no sub-mods and the 'flasher' works fine for me too. I think a good place to start looking if you really want the 'flasher' is at the files that those 7 sub-mods alter that you have installed.

    @Ginger Hammer,

You don't seem to understand sir.

I DID download a clean version of S.S. 6.1 and it did NOT let the "Flash Units" button work!

S.S. tampered with Vanilla Kingdoms as well, EVEN THOUGH SS 6.1 was supposed to be in its' own "folder" and not mess with anything else.

    Suggestions?

@ hellas1 There is an easy solution to your problem. In fact, it's so easy I was able to duplicate it, test it, and then fix it in my installation of Stainless Steel. It only took me 15 minutes to find the solution here at twcenter.net. The solution is going to cost you more than adding rep. Your attitude(as evidenced by your posts) is childish, so you need to do more before I help you.

Since you have blamed both Stainless Steel and Deus lo Volt for "messing up" your M2TW & Kingdoms installations you must apologize to everyone who has worked on these mods in their respective forums. Once you do that (with a new thread titled I APOLOGIZE as the title) then I will tell you step by step how to fix this problem.

Hi everyone, this is an old topic as I see it but it's probably my best bet to get a good answear.

I just recently downloaded and played Stainless Steel (the latest version). I just can't get used to the new command screen during battles. How can I switch it back to the original vanilla one (at the bottom of the screen) ? Is there any way of doing it without having to completely reinstall M:TW and kingdoms?

    Thanks Sursion

Well I thought it was related, because it changed when I installed the mod. Sorry about it.

You necro'd a 5 year old thread for a problem that isn't even remotely related... Nice.

I have no idea what you're talking about. It sounds like you want minimized mode, but you had full-mode on. Go to "Game Settings" and tick the box for "Minimized HUD"

    Minimal UI is superior IMO.

The only feature I miss is the outlining units one, but thats fairly minor for what you get.
