    Default Capes

There's been a lot of comments about capes on horse mounted units looking weird. The reality is that whatever we do is a compromise. We either have it going straight down (looks bad), really short (looks bad) or looking like it's flowing out onto the back of the horse (my choice). The problem with this last approach is that you have to have it raised a bit above the horse's back otherwise it gets lost into the horse when the cavalry unit moves and leans back or something. So there's a little gap there.

It won't look perfect, but to my eyes it's better and more natural than the original vanilla look.

Tone there is also a problem on some where the cape is going up like the roman equites if I remember correctly.

Yeah, the cavalry units with either two handed or overhand spear animations will need a little fixing.

all your units are awsome, and of I thought it was somethign that was at least, partly supposed to be there, I would have not reported it! keep up the good work by all means! besides even if the cape was crappy, I would be to busy looking at the beutliful weapons and armour. love the pikes.

If you see something you think is wrong it's better to report it rather than ignore it.

Ye, I thought that the capes might be a compromise of some kind. Anyway, you don't notice the gap unless you scrutinise the model from up-close (as I did ). However, there are some capes which disappear into the horse (go straight down) and others which are really short, as shown in the Carthage thead.

Yeah, the ones that disappear and are short are generally the old ones prior to me working on Macedonia, at which point I created a new model and skin element. All will gradually be made good.

There's not a huge amount left to do now before I'm able to start work on the fixes.

There are infantry with the same 'flowing' capes as well -- they look great when they're running, odd when they're standing, and downright bizarre when they're crouched in 'ambush' mode -- the guy is crouched low to the ground and the cape flows out like it's levitating. It looks really strange.

Any straighter down really and you run into problems with clipping from the legs when they're running. However we have them there'll always be a situation where they look weird. Ultimately as I explained above it's question of choosing a compromise. The reality is that they don't spend most of their time hiding thankfully.

I never hide my romen legionries, the last battle I had, I went against two 1,500 man Macedonion armies from oppiste derections with one 1,500 man army no ambushes needed, just the checker formation and the frontel sqouds on both sides of the fight on gaurd mode with the legions in the middle not on gaurd mode filling up gapas and flanking. I sqoushed the enemy with small losses....hiding........NEVER!!!!

tone, a couple of odd cape events...

The Seleucid Bodyguard's cape is doing something very odd:

And the Thrakien cavalry capes clip pretty bad whenever they lean back:

Yeah, I need to sort the capes on the units that do overhand or two handed spear animations. Seems like the animation lifts the tail end of the cape up - presumably it was designed to avoid "straight down" capes from clipping into the horse.

Not much I can do about the Thraikan, short of changing the cape behaviour on the animation (which I have neither the knowledge nor the inclination to do). Either we have them not clipping but everyone complaining they're too high (which they do at the moment already) or keep them as they are and the clip only showing when they lean back.
