Default Reserve phalanx for the ai.

I started messing around with the ai formations and created a reserve phalanx. Dime Bag said it was ok to share it with you guys. So here's something fun to play around with.

It's pretty much the same formation found in XGM 5.8.4 but with a reserve phalanx. Not a masterpiece but something different.

As always, make a backup copy of any file you overwrite... then download the attached files and copy it to C:\Program Files\Activision( or The Creative Assembly)\Rome - Total War\xgm\Data. Then load a custom battle with two phalanx armies and have fun.

    Here are the files.

Just looking at the textfile. Are you sure that AI is deploying his phalanx in two ranks - because I cant see it in the files. Have you uploaded the right files.

Yup. Max units for phalanx is 6. the rest go behind. A simple copy and paste job. As I said before, it's pretty much the same formation only with a reserve line.

Just wondering what gameplay issues does it have?

Does it improve AI ability to maintain a continues line? and presumebly reduces thier flanking options?

I haven't noticed any difference in the ai's fanking options. But they do hold a line. Just a big shoving match in the center.

And these are the original files if you want to go back to default.

Here are some screen shots. I wasn't worried about winning, instead just capturing the ai's behavior.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I'm sure there's a way to also distribute the amount of phalangites evenly into two battlelines. Then if you tweak the formation depth smaller in EDU, you can get quite satisfying results.
In Diadochi, I also positioned the general on one flank with elite cavalry - Alexander style. This really helps if you don't want the AI general charging straight into the enemy lines like in yours. It's best if he is positioned behind and slightly outwards from the cavalry flanks.

I really like this idea though, I'm definitely going to try something similar for xgmD
