[Decision] Creation of Military forum

I move that we create either a Military forum in the D&D section. The reason behind this being that many many threads are made to talk about the Military related matters be they topical, in the news or in abstract or historically, e.g.;

Creation of a Military Forum Bill

A Military forum, to be adequately named by the Curia, is to be created in the Discussion & Debate section of the forums dedicated entirely to Military matters be it news stories, scientific, historic etc.

Upon passage of this bill the forum in question will be created for a 2 month trial period, with a second Curial vote to take place at the end of the trial period to determine whether or not it is to be continued or abolished. [To allow for monitoring of traffic and usage]

I don't know. The military threads in the VV are generally about armies of the past, while the Mudpit threads are mostly about specific events, or today's armies. I don't know if I would like them to be put in a specific subforum, mainly because of their differences.

Not everything is political that goes into the Mudpit, I.e. the Military threads. Many threads are made to discuss Military and armies specifically, and don't really fit into the Mudpit or Academy. My examples above are only to show what was on the front pages.

I missed out some threads in the VV as they were as you said more historically weighted than military, but of course the possibility of amendments to the bill are possible.

I'm not really sure if this is necessary. :hmmm: We already have quite a few forums, and there isn't too much of a reason to further complicate things.

It's more of an organisational thing, de cluttering and cleaning up. A lot of things end up in the various D&D forums which don't belong there but lack of a better place or lack of enthusiasm, are just ignored.

PS: Where is everyone these days? Does no one bother to come to the CVRIA any more?

There were 55 voters in the CdeC election, so I wouldn't say the Curia is inactive.

Voters who pop into vote are not necessarily the same as those who come here to comment and view legislation and get involved in the whole procedure. Also 55/out of the number of citizens isn't that good.

I don't know. I think I am with Beethoven in this one. The Mudpit is the subforum for modern stuff. Besides, what would people talk about in the military one? All I can think about is "this gun is better than this one" or "this bow is better than that one" or "England's medieval army was better than France's". I just don't think there would be much discussion (if any).
Prove to me that it would be otherwise and then I'll support.

Aye. I'm afraid I also am with daddy on this. Although this forum is largely millitary themed (Total War Center) I think that there is more than enough room in the VV for historical armies, Mudpit for present day things and Political Academy for more in-depth discussions of present day armies.

I rather having fewer forums and more activity than more forums and less.

The opposition's issue was not the location of the forum, but it's usefulness or necessity, which has yet to be proved.

I say give it a month and see how it is...

I didn't think we needed a travel forum, but it seems to do well.

But make it also include the purpose for asking questions regarding joining militaries.

That is my point, if people gave certain things a chance it may work out excellently.

As for the bill, I did put;

So joining militiaries would fit under that umbrella. I could make it clearer though if you want.

As for my proposal as a whole.

Would people change their minds if it was only a provisional forum to be set up as a trial period for 1 or 2 months, then in 1 or 2 months from it passing, a second vote takes place to determine whether it has worked, and whether then we should continue or discontinue it?

Umm, I like this idea. I support the provisional idea.
However I would like to see that after the passing (meaning, after the provisional time) that an eye is kept on it. It might be popular on creation, but it might go down just as quickly.

You need to elaborate more than that though. If it is an experimental forum, that means moderators need to re-categorize everything if we decide that it didn't work out. And with all forums, new forum = users think they have a new lease to spam. Should make provisions that a vote will be held, and specify what will happen if it is deemed not adequate. I personally say lock every thread not on page 1 and throw it in the cemetary and attempt to relocate the rest.

Its easy, moderators move any thread they deem worth saving and then hide the forum.

If we decide it did not work out we simply;

1. move the active threads in the military forums to the academy/mudpit/VV.
2. move non active/closed threads to the cemetary.
3. delete any spam.
4. delete the forum.

Which shouldn't be too hard as the main reason for it's failure is no one posts there.

Also since I've been inducted into the staff moderating ranks in the D&D, and if I am still in the ranks then, I personally volunteer to do the above... should it fail immensely.

I like the idea too, but I doubt that people would vote for an "experiment" of sorts. Also, who would determine if the forum is successful or if it is not?
