Swedes "dissapointed". Norway chose USA's F-35 over the JAS Gripen

According to a Swedish internet article in Aftonbladet the Swedes are dissapointed that their fellow "allies" chose the American F-35 Fighter over the JAS Gripen Fighter(Swedish).

The reasons for this according to the Norwegian Minister of Defence is that the F-35 is a cheaper and in the long run a better choice. Although a prototype, it's potential is greater than the JAS Gripen.
They say that the F-35 will be produced in the thousands while the swedish counterpart would only produce a few hundreds.

In the "Aftonbladet" a swedish journalist claimed that they should never have let Norway out of the union in 1905. But what the heck does that have to do with the sale of some airplanes?

They think just because we are their neighbours that means that automatically we buy everything they offer, and they say that we are spoiled brats and that we brag about our natural resources while they have to work for the income.

Maybe some of them are jelaous? It has been proven time and again that USA has been one of our closest allies in the point of crisis. What did the Swedes do for us during WW2? They helped the enemy! The Norwegian Minister of Defence did the better choice by choosing the American F-35 Fighter, while some people think we shouldn't be supporting the world's most powerful agressor.

its a shame really, the gripen is a great plane... but sweden doesnt have the political clout to export much.

besides, the f-35 is meant to be better anyway :/ add these to the fact that norway's invested in the f-35 and u basically have a closed case; dunno why it was even really debated upon in the first place (i guess just for free market stuff)

Carach i think Norway also invested some in the development of the Swedish plane.

But now that the government has decided to go for the American alternative they will only spend money on the JSF.


Personaly i would prefer the Eurofigther but then they did not wanna sell planes to Norway.

As for Swedes been upset i imagin that the Saab bosses some journalists and maybe some of the workers that would have a more secure workplace migth be dissapointed by Norways desision.
But i don`T think the average Swede cares that much.

As for why Norway needs the planes. Well i belive that evry nation shud have a credebel defense even if there is no immediat treat.
Better to have a defense in place then to be caugth defensless if there was a war.

Also we are a member of NATO and i think this obligates us to have a sertan lvl of military spending. NATO shudent be lets scream for help from the US if something goes wrong. WE shud also have a good defense comperd to aour population and economy.
So really i think we shud spend more on defense. Cause wile Norway can never have a big military it can be well equipped and well trained.

In reality I believe Russia controls that strip at the moment, I don't think Finland has any atlantic ports...
