The Carthage campaign is one of, if not the, best campaign start money wise. From the first turn you can build structures in all your settlements. Trade temples, ports, farms and roads. No need to disband armies or blitz at all. The one and only rule for having a good economy in XGM is develop your towns continuously.
That's something I really like about XGM--in vanilla, I could never hold Iberia, since the Carthaginians only start with one town there...In XGM, it's actually possible to keep Spain.
where should i expand into?
if i leave rome alone for too long its going to get dangerous fast because they are weakest at the start. im taking it out with hit and run tactics. what i do is get a strong navy and put my stack in it. i then sail up and down italy attacking towns that are far from roman stacks. the elephants allow me to attack the settlements right away, i dont have to wait 1 turn which is crucial because i want to get in and out ASAP. scorched earth policy is used. when rome was near empty and ive captured it and i intend on keeping it or else they resume the uber strong principes that come out of it. the only problem now is the greeks who are advancing quickly to rome.
in iberia things arent going smoothly as the iberians secure iberia fast. i will post a screenshot of my campaign. next post. this campaign is by far the hardest. most of my victories were heroic victories because im fighting forces much larger than my own
I guess, Sicily is priority nr one. I usually ship some more troops from Africa to Sicily from the very beginning. With Sicily secure, you could launch an assault in Northern and/or South Italy.
But, do not give up initiative in Iberia: gather an army, if even based on low-level troops, and raid Iberian cities. You will need all the cavalry you can get, if you want your victories to be decisive.
lol
i gave up sicily after wasting alot of resources in keeping it. in the end it just took too much money and i want rome to fall asap because later on i wont be able to take them. holding on to sicily requires me to fight the rebels and greeks which i dont care about because i see them as a small threat for now.
sorry im still trying to get fraps working. im a dumbass when it comes to getting software to work
my current position. im not doing well on either fronts but im causing heavy damage
I don't see any picture...
My strategy with Carthage: abandon Sicily at the start, give Aleria a decent garrison, and focus on Africa first. Secure it while defending in Iberia, and then secure Iberia. That gives you a lot of resources to fight Rome against, who usually has just broken out of Italy by the time you've killed off the Iberians.
I'll have to try that strategy next time I play Carthage.

got rome. thats my army that i used to employ my hit and run tactics with. im being beseiged and im confident i can hold it off once or twice but the roman stack that will come will wipe me out definitely. however, it is the greeks that are the problem now. they have 2 full stacks of high tier units compared to mine. hoplites >> everything i have except elephants.
this is my current position in iberia as you can see im getting pushed out and only barely holding on. ive managed to gain ground but i have to fight battles of medium magnitude almost every turn in iberia. the iberians are concentrating fully on me. i sally out every turn with my slingers and shoot at them and then wait for the timer to run out, ending it in a draw. when the battle odds are at (me 1 : them 2) i attack and snatch a heroic victory. ive been doing this almost everyturn and its tiring me out.
ive managed to drive the eastern kingdoms out of africa for the most part. there is a huge garrison to the east and im just hoping it wont attack because my southern towns dont have walls. i have around 2 stacks worth of troops and i get around 5000 per turn

Instead of waiting for the clock to run out when you sally, if all your troops are inside the city walls you can exit the battle in a draw.
Don't do this if your troops are outside otherwise you lose.
P.s. Get a port built in Salde
oh yeah saldae has 800 population so i cant build anything yet.
wow thanks roman warlord that will help me alot in future sallies.
My advice is go for one enemy, either fight a delaying action in spain and throw everything (bar the kitchen sink, I need to wash up first) at Rome or do it the other way around.
Rome should be easier to hold as its got stone walls.
I doubt you've got too much to worry about from Eastern Empire, they always seem timid in my games.
Where are the Greeks? On sicily? It may be worth letting Sicily go for the moment and concentrate on the bigger threats you can mop them up when you've got spare stacks.
the greeks are smoking weed on the heel of italy. its really annoying how rome and the greeks arent fighting. greeks and roman rebels are allied and theyve taken sicily.
this campaign is going downhill fast. i need more military power immediately. should i relinquish iberia or rome?
wow iberia must be important if this many ppl are telling me to get it. i find it really annoying because its a barbarian cultured place and converting it takes alot of time and money
