    Beta 8.0 Updates & Bugs

    -Campaign progress(with screenshots)-

    Playing Armenia on E/M settings(to begin with) and ive been building my economy and expanding westward, im planning to kill 2 ptolemic cities along the south coast and use that to invade smaller islands (cyprus etc) and i'd like to invade crimea also. this is so i have a way to survive ptolemic/seleucid empire attacks.

    lost 3/4 of my empire to seleucids & atticid kingdom and trying to expand north near crimea where its easier to defend/build my empire from. will post screenshots

    started new campaign and took over a settlement west and i noticed during the battle this bug?. which i havent seen before. apart from that, everything else looked in order.



    unit card and general(on left) dont match

    this unit card doesnt match in-game length of spear now. needs adjusting

    this is indeed a difficult campaign, not making alot of money yet and seleucids tend to attack very quick.

    Latest campaign has been abit of a struglge against the free peoples in the area, their archery is deadly to my infantry and im pleased how my horse cavalry performed against their heavy cavalry while my foot archers also lent a hand in destroying thier heavy cavalry unit. a classice hit and run that worked very well, they ran at the right speed to avoid direct hits from them until they reached the end of the map, lol. my infantry were weakened too much to hold the enemy lines from their own archer cavalry on my right flank and from behind their main line so i lost that battle. at the moment expanding to the north trying to get myself distant from seleucid who are now at war with me. i will need solid heavy infantry to hold them while i rain a hail of arrows from their flanks ,i should be able to hold my own. ill try post photos later. oh and ive only had 1 CTD so far when i ended my turn. but i need to double check if ive got auto save switched off as i reinstalled RS when i downgraded my OS awhile. other than that, no other problems have surfaced.


    albanians what the....?

    Edit: ok wikipedia says they're caucasian albanians. this appears to be accurate historicaly.

    The Seleucids peaced with me after i defeated them 3 or so times and alot of other factions have been sending me alliances, trade etc, been expanding around the coast because of the wealthy and isolated cities, brings me in big cash. considering to take on Attitid empire, assaulting it from byzantion and eastwards from there. ive checked all buildings for any description/building time errors and havent seen any so far. im feeling alittle concern for the lack of elite/higher tier units at the moment that i had in older versions of the beta from the start but i expect my goverment buildings need to be upgraded alittle bit more.

    ------------------------------------- 17th feburary 2009 UPDATE - game freezes and shows strange graphics during battle, but doesnt CTD

    I alt-tabbed out of RTW when this glitch first occured, the bug would go away for a couple seconds and then it would come back(freezing my pc for a couple seconds) and the textures would go weird again. i have never seen such a glitch before and ive played rtw since its release.

    also in the same battle i noticed rhodian slingers(enemies units) were stuck near the lake, i could hear them shouting constant commands like they really wanted to move. i got a screenshot of it but havent uploaded yet.



    Fighting the Ptolemic empire who r aggressivly expanding north towards me and Atticid are also expanding aggressively :-(
    Apart from this graphic glitch everythings been normal today.

    Please explain the 'bug'. I am uncertain what the bug is?

    yes martin is correct. i dont remember ever seeing units standing in a formation with 50/50 on each side of the wall before in rtw. this was just a quick post of something i saw. ill do a more thorough test this weekend. so far nothing has stood out as not being correct in terms of names of units etc


    edit: due to last minute xmas shopping and helping my g/f with her University work close to deadline im delaying my report, im hoping to have somethng to write by thursday.

    Tone, I'm having trouble with the unit that uses 'eastern_cataphract_high.cas'. Every time I try to load it, I get an error "error loading scene file'. Sometimes it just CTD's. Other times it says it couldn't load it.

    OK, I've got the beta set up and I'll start a test campaign.

    Edit:

    I've noticed a few oddities regarding building construction costs.

    1. Building costs in my three starting provinces (Arsamosata, Van, and Armavir) are very low, but when I took Gazaca the construction prices there were higher (like in RS1.5). Not sure if this is an error or intentional...

When I took Satala, on the same turn as I conquered it, each of the buildings there, except the wooden wall, could be built for just 1 denarii - when I selected the buildings for construction my treasury only went down by 1, so I know it's not just some problem with the display. But then, the next turn and prices went up...:hmmm:

    Edit 2:

    I've played quite a few battle today (stupid rebels) and I've noticed some graphical errors on the Armenian Hoplites and the Armenian Zoravar's Bodyguard.

    3. The Armenian Hoplites hold their spears backwards; the hand is twisted around incorrectly - notice the thumb is pointing forward. I think this might be an incorrect animation...

    4. There's a problem with the skin (I think) for the Armenian Zoravar's Bodyguard unit where I can see what appears to be outlines of the headdress for the Saka catphact (iirc) and two feathers on the heads of the horse and rider respectively. This leads me to assume that the horse shares the same model as the Saka one, but the texture isn't right...:hmmm:

    yeah, DVK put in some really low values as a temporary fix as a lot of factions were going deeply into the red on the first release. Things will gradually get tweaked and tweaked until perfect. Next revision should bring some more changes.

    Thanks. The bodyguard should be fixed in the next revision, the hoplite I'm going to need to create a new animation for (because of the thumbs)
